Better dry lane ball... Viral or Melee Jab??
« on: January 03, 2015, 02:18:09 PM »
Hey guys,
Just wanted to know if anyone has had a chance to compare these balls or if anyone has any input on how these do on dryer lanes / broken down  lanes... Looking for a ball for when I need to move in and swing the ball in longer format tournaments... Any comment would be greatly appreciated.

I have no experience with the Viral, but my Jab HOOKS!  As the lanes open up I've been able to keep opening up the angles with it.

I wouldn't really consider either a dry lane ball both seem to be more suited to medium oil conditions.

Brunswick has the Strike Kings and DV8 Outcasts which are more suited to drier conditions. Hammer would probably be the Arson Low-flare

One of my teammates has a Melee Jab and that ball hooks. I have a Viral and while it doesn't as much as the Melee Jab I still wouldn't think of it as a "Dry" lane ball.

My Viral can handle broken down patterns or if I need to ball down from my B.W. Legend and I can use it effectively on medium oil if I can get a good enough look. If the lanes do give me a "dry" look though I would use my Viral I would just have to change how I played the lanes.

Havent thrown the Viral, but if it is anything like the Cobalt Vibe it will be a great dry lane ball.  Friend of mine has both, and says the Viral is even tamer than the Vibe.

+1 for the Strike King, but don't forget about the Grease Monkey, which I personally have for my dry lane ball. I have no recommendation for the Hammer products as I have been throwing Brunswick for about the past year.

Melee Jab is MUCH stronger than the Viral. A pin down Viral is very mild imo. Only way i see the Viral being strong is on dry lanes and/or a rev dominant release. FWIW

If it's gotta be a Hammer, get a Cobalt Vibe, if it's gotta be a Brunswick, get a LT-48.

Look into the Deep Freeze.  I have a pretty high rev rate and I am able to square up my lines and not have to move much over the course of 3 games.  Even with the shiny surface and pin over the fingers; the ball does not jackknife on the backend.  Really clean through the front and nice smooth arc on the backend.

The ball that has looked the best for others on dry lanes lately is the Brunswick Brute.

The Brute is very nice for me. Not quite as strong late as the Melee Jab, but still strong enough to allow me to open the lanes up as they transition.  The Strike Kings are also great performers for drier conditions.
