What do you use to keep your particle ball clean?

I understand most particle coverstocks get oil logged very quickly, and that maintenance is sort of a requirement.

So, what do you all use to keep it clean?

I've been told soaking the ball in a bucket of water and dish soap works well.

This is a good topic to bring up b/c we always get new folks on her that don't know how to care for hiperf bowling balls.  I personally use 409 orange clean every three games.  I spray the ball, rub it with my hand to make sure I cover the entire surface, then after 45 sec or so I wipe it off.  It keeps everything nice a squeaky.  I recommend it to everyone I see that buys a new ball.  I can't believe the prices that companies are charging for cleaner considering 409 does a great job a half the price.

Besides a good cleaning regimen, I believe that particle balls require an occasional use of sandpaper, scotchbrite, or trizac (depending on the type of particles) to restore the 'bite' of the particles.  In other words, you have to bring fresh particles into play on the surface of the ball by using something that is relatively softer than the particles themselves but harder than the coverstock, to remove the coverstock and expose the particles.  And, if you are new to particle equipment, search out the particle primer that was posted here by Bjaardker sometime earlier.  If I can, I will bring it back to the top for you.

I've used everything from Simple Green to those $10 a bottle cleaners, and the best thing is still good old rubbing alcohol. Not only does it leave the ball "tackier" than anything else, but you can also see on the towel how much more oil and dirt it takes off. Highly suggest everyone tries it- not a bad investment for 89 cents a bottle.

409 works for me. And when I want a deeper clean, I use the Ultimate Black Magic Particle Coverstock Rejuvenator.

NoNeed4Revs,
It's been pointed out on this site over and over by a large number of perple that Alcohol does not remove oil from the ball. All you're taking off the ball with Alcohol is dirt. Simple Green and 409 will take oil off the ball. The ball cleaners made to take oil off the ball, do so. Some just do it better than others. A hot water bath with Dawn dishwashing detergent will draw oil "out" of the ball, but Alcohol does not remove oil. Sorry if it appears that it does.

Bowlfiz - The best way to maintain particle technology is to eliminate the oil saturation as this picks up all the junk on the lane and in the ball return and the pit.  This slowly deteriorates the hooking ability of the coverstock.  There are many different factory approved cleaners on the market and depending on the company of the ball most aftermarket cleaners work well also.  This has been stated in the above comments and I am sure others will follow.

Hey Doc,
I meant to tell him about the Elixir at the end of my post and I plumb forgot it until I went back and re-read my post. Meanwhile, you already did so.

Bowlfiz and NoNeed4Revs, the regular use of this Elixir will help prevent your ball from absorbing any oil. In fact you will see from none to hardly any oil on your ball when you use Elixir on a regular basis as instructed. In fact, I use it every 20 games to insure my balls are always covered with Elixir.

I beleive alchool does remove oil, it may not remove as much as other cleaners, but it does remove oil. However, Neo-Tac ball cleaner does abosolutley nothing on my opinion. It gets no oil out, and it leaves a residue, like a window cleaner, it even smells like a window cleaner.

a dull particle ball WILL require more maintenance than a polshed reactive ball. you will need to keep the coverstock clean AND dull. clean the ball after every practice session and every league and/or tournament. you will also benefit if you can keep the coverstock dull----sandpaper, scotch-brite pad, trizact pad, etc.
