Me or the ball??
« on: March 08, 2007, 12:56:47 AM »
I'm not sure if my recent improvements are more due to the new ball I'm throwing or improved mechanics.  My average is 176, and I've been working a lot on my game.  Two weeks ago I punched up a Mean Machine that I picked up used, and in the two weeks I've had it I've thrown a 610 and a 649.  The 649 is my high series this year.  On one hand, I'm anxious to maybe try another Track piece or two, maybe they match up well with me for whatever reason.  On the other hand, I've really felt like I was CLOSE to reaching a new level in my game, and perhaps I just finally turned that corner.  I'm hitting my mark more consistently, following through better, and not over-adjusting as I tended to in the past.  I suppose regardless of the cause, I should just be happy with the improvement!  Has anyone else had this happen, and what did you think?  Maybe it's just some combination of the ball and mechanical improvements?

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

I have had similar experiences with new equipment.  I think it has a lot to due with the new confidence you get.  When I had my Widow drilled up, I went out there and started bowling over my average.  For me, it was that this ball was not as forgiving as my other ball.  I had to be more consistent with the release and follow though.  This made my mechanics a lot better.  When my Widow was damaged by the lanes and I had to fight to get it fixed, I did not through it.  I had bought a new Storm Ragin Banshee and thought I would give it a try.  First night out with it, threw a high six with a 180 ave.  The ball matched right up to my game and gave me the confidence to throw it well.

It's not the ball, it's the man.

Just by your description, its you.  If u hit your mark more often, & adjust better, you're bowling better.  No way around it.

Consistancy is the name of the game.  U could kick the ball down there if u wanted, if it rolls the same, & always hits the same spots on the lane, thats all that matters.

Ryan, some bowling balls will match up to the lanes and your style really well.  These types of bowling balls also create more miss area.

Ryan, there are  bowling balls that are hard to control and make hitting the pocket tough.  These types of bowling balls can make a bowler think there not making quality shots even though they are.

Ryan it's probably a combination of both.  The ball is matching up to you well and your making good shots.  Grab another bowling ball and compare.  This should let you know if it's more of the ball or just you making improvements.

I think its your dedication to improving using the proper mechanics and trying different things.Keep up the good work.It takes time but you are getting there.

As for using another Track ball i have found the Arsenal Artillery has become my benchmark ball, great ball for medium lanes imo.
