Title: Difference in 14lb and 15lb...
Post by: nowski1381 on November 19, 2008, 12:43:40 PM
Just wondering if anyone out there has thrown both and if there is a drop in performance/carry...I throw 15 now but might want to try a 14 sometime...I dropped from 16lb to 15lb a few years ago and didn't have any performance loss...

I just shot 720 with 14# equipment... Throwing 15# equipment I've only managed a couple of high series in the 740 range.  Haven't shot a sanction or practice 300 with 14# stuff yet, but I did get close with a 298 with my Tropical Storm one night...

I can't say I've noticed any major differences.

I agree with everyone else to a point - no real difference in carry power from 15lbs to 14lbs for the most part. HOWEVER, if you are big time stroker with a real low rev rate, you might see a few more weak 10's, etc., but with any kind of revs you shouldn't notice anything. My dad drilled a 14 pounder earlier this year to try it (he's a true stroker in every sense), and he has lost a bit of his light carry power with it. When I tried tossing his 14 pounder, I saw no difference between it and my usual 15lb balls.
