Does anybody use this stuff? If so, does it really prolong the life of their bowling ball?

I used it 5 years ago, but quit as I was having too many mechanical problems with my game and at times couldn't tell if it was me or the Elixir, so I quit using it and never used it again even after getting my problems corrected.

I would guess though, that if used today on todays soaker coverstocks and if the Elixir worked as it was designed and supposed to do, that it could defeat the purpose of the soaker coverstocks by not all0owing them to soak the oil as they were designed to do. However, I don't know that for fact though.

Hockeynut,

When brickguy says, "soaker", I think he means Dyno-Thane's Soaker coverstocks, so it should be capitalized. There aren't any out currently but there are plenty of DT SOaker coverstocks still in use. I have a Thung Returns and a Thing Lives.

No, you shouldn't use the Elixer on Soaker coverstocks or on those with no "coverstock death" problems, like Lanemasters and Visionary balls. The new Cell which is supposed to have a coverstock that also absorbs a lot less oil may also be a candidate. I suppose that "shouldn't use" should be "do not have to use", s they do not need this protection.

On Ebonite-made balls whose hooking ability depends on rapid oil absorption (at least according to Ebonite, they do), I wonder what the results would be. I do know that on certain balls, the Elixer made the ball go slightly longer; so that if it's original finish was 2000 grit, you might need to surface the ball to 1500 grit BEFORE applying your two coats of the ELixer.
