ABC is really on the ball
« on: June 25, 2004, 07:03:39 AM »
At nationals in 2002 in Billings, MT I bowled a 290 game. Spare in the first then 11 in a row. Having only bowled in nationals twice (poorly I might add) I was pretty happy about it. I filled out the required forms and waited for my award. And waited, and waited , and waited. Then in 2003 in Knoxville I decided to go talk to an ABC rep about the possibility of getting my award. He new nothing but the info was available on the computer. He assured me it would arrive shortly. This year in Reno I didn't waste my time inquiring about my award. Last week I received a letter from the ABC asking me if my 11 in a row in "Knoxville" was the first 11 or the last 11.
I sent them the following e-mail. In all fairness to the ABC they did respond to my e-mail with apologies and a statement of when I could expect my award.

Concerning my 290 game award at the National Bowling tournament on May 7, 2003 at the Knoxville Convention Center.
The 11 strikes in a row were beginning in the 2nd frame. But, it was done in Billings, MT in 2002 and yes I filled out the appropriate forms the very next day. The reason you have a date of May 7, 2003 is because when I bowled in Knoxville, TN in 2003 I went into one of the offices and talked to a man and requested my award for 2002. He assured me it would be sent out shortly. I didn't bother talking to anyone about it this year because I assumed it would be a waste of time. Kind of like paying my ABC dues. (SARCASM) Can you blame me? How often does one bowl 11 in a row in a national tourney? Hopefully more often than waiting 2 or 3 years to get the award for it that our dues are supposed to pay for.
Are you taking any applications for employment? Sounds like nice work if you can get it.

An award was delivered to a local guy here a couple months ago for a score he shot in 1997.

My question is that if they knew you shot 290, why the hell would they ask you if it was the first 11 or last 11, LOL.  If it was the first 11 with a fat goose egg at the end, how many people would really want that on their plaque?

That was the first thing their question brought to my mind as well.
I've seen some bad choke shots after the 1st 11 but never one in the ditch.
But, Del Ballard has done the equivalent so I guess it could happen.

Heck, the UT baseball team wouldn't even go back onto the field to *get* their second-place CWS trophy.

After shooting any "honor" score and filling out the  appropriate paperwork.
I usually wait about a month to hear from the ABC.
If after that time I haven't heard from them I give them a call to see how my paperwork is going?
I've had "award paperwork" lost on tournament directors desks or in league secretaries briefcases in the past.

As for asking about "front" or "back" 11.
I know of 2 guys who have the "front"11 awards.
1) The guy was going for the "292" game(it still hadn't been done at that time) and the ball fell off to the right into the gutter.
2) A different guy was playing outside of 1st arrow and missed it right and you know the result.

The funny thing is the 2 occurances happened in less than a 24 hour period(back about 15 years ago).
free agency it is until i get a better offer.   LMAO
