Which urethane ball???
« on: November 12, 2009, 09:21:39 AM »
in your opinion, which urethane ball should i get for dry lanes/spare ball? Storm Natural, Visionary Ogre Urethane, or AMF Hype Urethane? i have 17-19 MPH ball speed and 380-425 RPM rev rate.

i have all three and use urethane almost exclusively.  for dry/spare ball as you specified, i would rule out the hype, it is the stronger of the three, when i go to the lanes tomorrow i will sub my frenzy for the hype, and likely throw the natural all three games.

No, it is a solid, polished to 1500.

If you just want something for occasional dry lanes, primarily for spares, I'd also consider the dirty cheap Urethane Groove from Brunswick. Very old school, with a pancake core (the current balls have a small puck instead, but that's no difference).

It does have somewhat of a pearl "look" to it when it''s polished.

Yeah, I just got mine in today and I had to look at it twice because it was so shiny.

the difference between the solid and pearl urethane will be the same as if it were reactive.. the solid will be earlier and the pearl will push a little farther down lane before picking up.. as for the desperado they could not use the solid urethane cover because it was picking up way too early with the core that is in it, that is why they went with the pearl and additive silicone.. to be honest I have no idea what the silicone will actually do.. that is something dave from seismic might have to answer for you.. Iam interested in the desperado but Iam going to wait for some feedback on it first.. that is a good chunck of chaa chingg$$ to be putting down on a urethane ball especially if they want to compete with storm and amf in that catagory.. I will listen and see first before purchasing..  enjoy your new toy when it arrives , make sure you write up a review after throwing it(be honest now..lol.lol..just joking).. have a good day.. slashrr69

the Hype Urethane is by NO MEANS a dry lane ball so if you are looking for something for the dry don't buy it.

The Natural handles med-light oil, the Ogre Urethane is strictly for really light oil. I have them both drilled strong with OOB finish.

Did you see Ryan Ciminelli throwing the Natural last Sunday on the show?  It looked pretty darn good to me.  Did you also hear the conversation that he had with his father about the ball?

I have a Lane 1 Liberator polished up. The benefit to throwing the urethane is it starts to move and then settle in to a strong drift to the pocket. Mine will glide into the pocket rather than jump when the backends get dry and jumpy. For me it's an outside shot, down and in with a continuous controllable/adjustable move to the pocket. If I tried it inside it would roll out and not carry as well.

A 900G Link or Lane 1 XXXL would also be solid choices for burned up lanes. If you have a few extra $$ go with a Lane Masters Hornet. Very controllable and you can make slight adjustments to stay in the pocket.
