release = more revs, what to do to 'get more'?
« on: February 23, 2004, 04:09:38 AM »
i currently have a fairly clean release, i think. i bowl with a straight arm, a cupped wrist, and i open the wrist up at the ankle, get the thumb out and "shake hands". i still generate only medium revs even when trying to really spin it up.

hand position: i am lefty. middle finger points at 2 o clock, thumb back at 8. the wrist opens only at the release, staying cupped thru the whole swing.

i found i can generate more revs my keeping my back more upright, and letting the knee bend get me lower.

what else can i do to get that extra "snap" on the ball? i refuse to curl the arm *ala max BOB*, as that would wipe out anything i have learned in the past few months with arm swing consistency. i would like to turn the ball more and anything you guys can recommend will be appreciated.

i don't care who makes it, how much it costs, or how sexy the ball looks. can i carry the 7 and level the deck with a $60 ball?

fold your pinky in where your pinky nail sits flat on the ball to the first knuckle. This will offer a major rev increase and not mess with your release, although some poeple complain that it puts to much strain on the ring finger, so be careful with it.

no1bucsfan, i have tried that and man, it caused some pain, lol. maybe i should give it another try. is the rev rate that drastic? do i release the same as extended pinky? i see alot of PBA guys release in this manner... hmmmmm

explain open of closed shoulder... my armswing is back and down, it doesn't come out. i drop my shoulder somewhat during release... is this what you are referring to?

i stay behind the ball, slightly under it due to 'cupping', but still behind at release.

Something I've found that often robs me of some revs is not getting the ball all the way into the palm of my hand. A lot of times that will lead to grabbing a bit at the end.

Here's a question I have for you.... Why do you need more revs?

I tried for a long time to get more & more revs, but in the end I finally resigned myself to being a low-medium rev stroker. Since that time my avg has gone up 30 pins.

If you've got all of the mechanics down, the last step to "pro like" revs is timing. And IMHO the only thing that will give you the timing is working with a coach.

I tried the pinky thing, there was no pain but I couldn't keep the ball out of brooklyn, already throw outside arrow, was throwing around 16 mph but had to speed it up to 18 to stay pocket, if I tried the pinky again I would have to go around 20-22 mph, so yeah, it really adds a lot or revs, at least it did for me.

The also make a glove that had rubber on the index and pinky fingers to add better grip to the ball, which increases revs. A firend of mine got one and really likes it, they are like 15-18 dollars so you may want to try one of them if the pinky thing doesnt work for ya.

i want one for some of the sh!tty shots around here. i am pretty versatile, but watching your average rev ball spin thru horrible oil/carrydown sucks when you know you can step it up and get more entry angle.

also, i want to be able to be more versatile when the need calls for it.
