Do Brooklyn strikes annoy you?
« on: August 19, 2006, 02:00:16 PM »
Just out of curiosity. I went bowling today, had a couple good games but a few brooklyn strikes. For some reason those are annoying, despite being a strike. Especially if i'm having a problem and hitting heavy, next thing I know I go Brooklyn. My wife was with my and she was saying "A strike is a strike" but to me that's just poor, despite being a strike.

Just curious if they annoy you too.

I think that if you're not somehow slightly embarrassed and apologetic when you get one, you don't truly understand bowling. Consider it like a let cord shot in tennis and acknowledge it wasn't a good shot.

However, if you're intentionally shooting for them because getting to your pocket isn't an option, go for it.

Brooklyn strikes demonstrate that you have the ability to correct, in mid approach, for an obvious bad rack.

Seriously, the strike itself doesn't bother me (sometimes you're the window, sometimes the bug), but I do question how I got the ball there - mechanics, lane transition, something is off and I need to figure it out asap.
