Yes and no. There are too many things to explain, but both have pluses and minuses.

The best bowler has the "advantage." A cranker may get away with more errors during a THS league, but put them on a sport/PBA/flatter shot in general, and that margin of error is completely gone. The stroker may benefit from the THS in teh same ways as a cranker, just not as much (I'm a stroker and if I miss an arrow right it's not coming back). But this forces me to be more accurate, and helps me a lot on tourney/pba shots. But as long as you work on your game, there is no real advantage.

It's like nOOdlejester said, crankers get away with a lot more errors. I'm a cranker with high ball speed and if I miss right, the pins will go flying around and knock a few left standing. Sometimes a sloppy strike or sometimes a easier spare.

As long as the cranker has a sound spare game, he has IMHO some advantage on cake shots, THS and the like, which allow to play an area with much room for error. Such oil patterns reward revs and brute power with the pin mix and recovery they offer even from 1st board back to the pocket.
But I would not see it as an absolute benefit. I have rarely seen crankers that excel on varying shots or changing lanes. When things get tight (e. g. on flat sport patterns) I found them to struggle, easily, and leave by far more ugly spares and splits than strokers or down-and-in players.
Additionally, I have the impression that many wannabe-crankers put most of their effort into revolutions, but not into any spare game that might easily up their average - even without the powerful ball finish on the strike shot.

IMO the cranker, assuming hes a good bowler, has the advantage.
The reason is simple, at least to me. It is far easier for a cranker to move right & lower the revs to play the strokers shot. How often do u see a stroker rev it up & cover some boards?
I have somewhat decent amounts of hand, by no means am i a cranker, but playing 25-5 on a drier shot is never out of the question for me. Although, i CAN move right & play str8 up 10 with a much lower rev rate if i want. Ive never seen any of my stroker friends play deeper than 17 or so, & thats usually if theyre fried.

Cranker has an advantage on the easy walled up patterns. I feel the lower rev bowler has the advantage on tougher patterns that have less miss area!

It can't just be cranker vs. stroker. If they are same on accuracy and ability to repeat shots then I think the cranker is going to have the advantage most of the time.
They can generate a lot more action at the pin deck.
Why do people think most crankers are more inaccurate than strokers on a THS?
I have seen plenty of strokers miss their mark plenty on a THS. Its just not as noticable compared to a cranker.
A cranker standing at board 37 throwing to 4th arrow and misses 5 boards right is going to change the direction of the ball more than someone standing on board 13 throwing to 2nd arrow and misses 5 boards right.

Crankers only had an advantage during the plastic/urethane era. I don't think they have an advantage with todays balls (buy a hook). Just about anybody can create angle nowadays.

Crankers have an enormous advantage.
Hence the dramatically changed styles from Norm Duke and Walter Ray Williams, Jr. over the past few decades.
Accuracy will prevail, regardless of bowler style and those two are incredible.
