Title: do spare balls have pins?
Post by: xrayjay on September 25, 2014, 11:32:37 AM
I recently got a spare ball and I noticed its pin is directly opposite of my grip. so the pancake is at the bottom of my grip. I never seen this done on a spare ball before. have you?

I have seen it, but I've never really put too much thought into why that is the case.

I wonder if they make the internals of some pancake core balls by placing the pancake in a mold and filling the rest with filler (with pin on top).  Then take the pancake filler combo and then add the cover.

It is merely pinned in the bottom the mass is still on 'top' or 13.5" from the pin...it minimizes cracking

I was wondering whether or not cracking had anything to do with it. That makes sense.

My first reaction to this topic was to answer: Yes. SOme do as some have real cores in them. I have the Clear Wolf from Ebonite. With the actual Wolf weightblock in it, it has a pin position so you can set the weightblock as you like...although being clear you could do that anyway without the pin, lol. I would think the Lane#1 XXXL would as well with the Diamond core it has in it.

Then I read the topic and realized that my initial thoughts may not be correct, lol. But I thought I would add my two cents. I think it depends on the nature of the ball. There are still a few spare balls with real cores in them, I believe, so it may not always be the case as it is with the pancake weight blocks.

They are all 'real' cores just differing dynamics...
