Kegel Oil patterns

OK,

Our house just went from a broken down old summit(will this weeks tear down of the pads put the out of bounds on the right or the left!) To a new Kegel Ikon!

Are you kidding me?!  Is that what you guys are bowling on? 

Tell me about patterns that end in Street?  Is there really any difference between all these street patterns?

I mean I noticed the different volumes and ratios on the above chart and the house is on a trial program running different oils through Stone Street, Main Street and Easy street programs.  Some of our bowlers have also been trying some of the challenge programs!

Do these Street programs differ in any significant way that are worth talking about?

They can play wildly different. In our house high street is by far easiest while easy street is much more sensitive

Dig around and find out what you can from the center about the testing and what they’re doing.

Are they modifying any of the patterns at all? Trying to get a desired shot...

Also, try to find out if they’re testing different oils as well and what they’re using. Oils have their own characteristics.

Kegel Fire will play differently than Kegel Ice for the same pattern.

Knowledge is power, or in this case, pins down the road.

It really depends on the lane surface, topography and type of oil used. Where I was bowling they used Main Street for a long time and switched to High Street for the past season.

Based on the different lane variables we saw, Easy Street was not easy. There's definitely some differences, Stone Street and Bourbon Street are my favorite of them

Yes, We had been using the Prodigy oil, and I have not heard if they are running threw the new machine.

My understanding is Curve(right now), Crossfire, and ICE are all going to be tried.

I want to bowl on all 3 oils.    Our previous shot played as hard for me as any reverse block pattern I have ever been on.  I know the oil was layed down like that either.  I think these patterns are puch button choices on the ION.  I don't know how much variance they can add.

I  am hoping to chat with the chief mechanic this weekend.

PS I believe the volume of many of these patterns in the middle(15 to 15) is lower than our previous shot!  However it tapers down gradually versus the summit machine dramatic drop down on the sides!  On the left it looked like at 14 right after the heads for the drop down from middle oil to 15 to 10 oil well my impression was that it was always concrete there for 2 games.  Screech!

First thing I look at on any psttern is length of buff.   Then I look at overall volume and number of loads 2 to 2.  Most patterns of similar length will play similar on fresh regardless oil type.  Its all about transitions, and how guys are playing them also has a bigger impact than type of oil.

Not great on reading oil graphs.  Or only sort of OK.

Please expand on  "loads 2 to 2"  As to transitions on the left side...I don't really worry unless it is a real tough pattern I know it is going to transition very slowly for me and very quickly for my opponents on the right.  Too row to hoe that day!

Often on the tougher patterns I like to have another lefty with me, especially if too wet, or if too wet with sparky down lane.  If a great easy pattern I like being by myself.

Bob, Please explain as you can and do with so much knowledge.

When you look at a graph,  the left side will have data on the oil application
  For example line 1 might say 4 loads 2 to 2 to 8 feet.  Line 2 might say 2 loads 7 to 7 8 feet to 15 feet.  The entire box is a numerical representation of the graph.  However telling me how many loads are applied 2 to 2 giv3s me an idea of how flat the pattern is. Nationals has been about 6 loads.  Typical house shot might be 1 or 2 loads with more load towards the middle. 

Basically, the more loads 2 to 2, the flatter the pattern will play with more OB.

So much more goes into play with lane conditions. I will be happy to add to the confusion.

What I love about this game is that the more you know, the less you really know. I suggest to focus on good shot execution and using your eyes to give you feedback on what the lane is giving to you. Being aware of variables is important, but it is not as valuable as the information that you get from throwing a good shot for information later.

The following (in no particular order) are in play:

- Lane characteristics - variances in topography, lane wear, humidity, temperature, hardness, etc
- Lane Machine Settings (including the condition the lane machine itself it in)
- Type of conditioner used
- Type of cleaner/cleaner:water ratio
- Types of equipment/styles other players are using
- Dusting Procedures

Also, the biggest variable out there is still your release.  No teo releases are exactly the same, and no two will react exactly the same to different patterns.  In addition it is all sbout transitions.  I havent seen many patterns I couldnt get lined up on during warmups.  It is understanding when and how to move.

I agree that your release is important, but the biggest variable IMO is ball surface. Not only your choice, but others on your side can make or break your day-in a hurry. All of these other things won't matter much if you see a couple snow tires on the rack after practice....

Have to agree to disagree.   Release is a bigger factor than either surface or core.   Difference in speed and  roll pattern trump any surface adjustment.
