Do we have to match up with polishes too?

Just perusing through the discussion of "Bean's Secret Sauce", and it appears that for some people this stuff works great, and for others they claim other polishes give them the reaction they're looking for.

So now I guess not only do I have to match my style of play to the coverstock of my ball, select the appropriate core for that coverstock, figure out whether cg does or does not matter, figure out where to put the pin, and decide what top weight I need, and ask the laneman how much oil is on the lane and how it is applied, but now I also have to research and see which polish suits my equipment best!  Oh Lord, is there no end to the madness!!  Just give me a houseball and let me throw for the headpin!

YES, this is so often overlooked its comical. I refuse to use anything but Ebonite extender. Black Magic and Control-It mimic car wax to me. Rough Buff is also another horrendous product in my opinion.

It not only the polish product. The basic grit before you apply the stuff is IMHO also very influential. I had the case with Brunswick's HG polish (the only stuff I get around here with little effort) on balls from Brunswick, Columbia and Ebonite that the base grit made a huge difference for the lane performance, or as a match-up for my style and needs. 1.000 grit base was so-so, then 1.500 or even 2.000 let some balls come to life. Sure, this test was not on the smae day, so oil could have been applied differently from day to day, but I was surprised how much influence such a little twist can have.

Bad thing is that one can only find out with trial and error what works, and what not. Even even worse: it might probably not work for someone else...
