The swelling and shrinking of the thumb. Every bowler knows that a consistent and clean Thumb release is essential for a good release and excellent control. Just wondering if others have noticed any sort of pattern to the size of the thumb throughout the day and into the night. The things I've noticed, that seem to be a pattern in the size of the thumb.
Certain generalizations,
1. Early in the morning, just after waking - larger thumb (as we age, more swelling?) Take tape out of ball.
2. Mid morning to early in the afternoon - an average size thumb
3. 5-6 pm - thumb reduced in size. Add one piece of tape.
4. 8-9 pm - thumb either gets smaller (add 1-2 pieces of tape) or begins to swell with more use (take 1-2 pieces of tape out).
Other factors...
What we eat, what we drink, the Weather Cold/Hot, extreme amounts of bowling, NO bowling, and well being (ie nervous, stressed, relaxed).
I ask the group, what generalizations have you noticed?
What adjustments do you make to account for this sizing problem.
Tape in back of thumbhole, Fitting tape, Switch Grip Adjustable Thumb Insert, Chapstick trick, Grip Insert in front side of thumbhole, hankercheif trick, magic carpet, etc.
