Do you tip your pro shop operator?

I have been tipping my pro shop guy for the last 4-5 year's for all kind's of ball work done. I normally don't tip for thing's like new shoe's, bag's, cleaner's, towel's, ect.

Last night I was talking to a few guy's who just picked up a new ball last night, 2 Invasion's and a Mission. I don't remember how we got to this topic but all I can remember is me asking these guy's if they gave the man a tip. All 3 said "No, I already paid $250+ for this new beast. Why would I tip the man?!" Not in their actual word's but the general idea. 1 guy said he will never tip any proshop because of the money he already make's. 2nd guy said he just don't feel it's needed. 3rd guy said he's never really thought about it but probably wouldn't tip anyway.

You tip your waiter/waitress, you tip your barber guy/gal, you tip your pizza delivery dude, why would you not tip your pro shop guy?

I tip him because I know he don't make a lot off each ball sale or anything else for that matter. On a typical new ball sale he generally make's $25-$30 at most. Most of his money come's in the form of ball plug and redrilling. I normally tip $5 unless he's getting me 2 ball's done in the same day then it's $10.

If your pro shop guy sells the invasion for 250 including drilling he is making a decent amount off the ball. I can get invasions for about 180 drilled slug and grips.

I tried to tip my shop operator recently, and he declined it.

It would totally depend on who did the drilling.  If the Pro shop guys is the owner/operator of the establishment then no i would not tip.  If it is one of him employees that did the drilling and I liked the service then yes i would tip.  The same goes for my Barber.  I dont tip the owner just the employees.

As a driller, we do appreciate offers to tip.  I refuse tips, if the customer insists I tell him to put it in the tip jar for the counter workers.  Occasionally if I've really gone above and beyond normal service in helping with the customer's game (I don't charge for any coaching I do) I will accept a small tip, no more than $5.  --  JohnP

I don't tip the person who drills for me. I'm already paying him to do that, why would I pay him extra for actually getting the drilling right.

That said, I only get my equipment from him, drilled by him as well as almost all my accessories. I also will recommend him to anyone who asks me.

I tip the barber because most are "renting" the chair from the owner.  The amount of the tip will depend on how much work they needed to do, and how well they did their job.  Last few people that cut my kid's hair got a $5-6 tip - because they did a good job and they somehow managed to keep the kids happy!  If I thought they got all of the $14-16 I wouldn't tip at all.

The pizza delivery guy will get a $1 and whatever the left over change is.  I'd tip more, but not when the pizza place is adding a $1.50 "delivery charge."  And the only reason I tip is because I'm too lazy to drive to the place to pick it up!

I did give my pro shop owner a tip once - do a better job on getting the span/pitches right, and stop telling your customers they are drilling up too many balls!  See, at an average of $50 ($60 for blank and $40 for plugging) he's lost at least $1000 from me since I bought my own drilling equipment!

I don't tip my pro shop guy for drilling.  However, when I go in there and he does small things for me at no charge like open my thumb hole, or hit a piece with an abralon pad or what have you, I will give him $3-$5 and tell him to get himself a beer.  Most of the time he says no, but I know he's busy and he's taking time out of his day to help me, so I want to compensate him, even if it's just a little bit.

I did have a driller once tell me about how when he would win jackpots he would give his ball driller a percentage of it.  I'm not sure if that was true, or if he was just trying to get me to give him a percentage of my winnings.

word of mouth does work both ways. the shop in my house shut down a couple weeks back b/c of that.

I was thinking this is the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard, but then again, there is a tip cup everywhere these days. I think your right Spider Man, I tip my proshop guy by bringing in a lot of referral  business.

Although I did give him tickets to a basketball game for Christmas.

I generally refused tips, although had many offered.  Offered for the little things like adjustments, cleaning, some super glue... I usually just told them to buy me a Coke some time.  I often had a line of Cokes.  Little did I know this was contributing to my kidney stone!!!  Drink more clear liquids people!!  That is a tip for ya!!
