Closing a house
« on: January 02, 2005, 11:46:57 PM »
As of June the Bowling i bowl at will be closing for Medical Offices. The people who run the house an lease the property wanted a 10 year lease so they could do upgrades to the house and then found out it was closing. This is terrible i have bowled there in a mixed league for 7 years and met my wife there. It is a shame, now our league needs to find a new house and risk loosing people. Hope this never happens to you.

Sheesh, how far do you come in off/go out on the island to bowl?  An hour each way, hell depending on where you are, you'd practically be in Queens  (takes me a little less time to get to Tangers from my house) My sister lives in Stony Brook and sometimes bowls with her co-workers at Port Jeff.  I plan to make a trip out there and hang out.  How are the lanes (if you've bowled there)?

FBM, how did you know that I live on Long Island?

Port Jeff is where I now bowl; it takes me an hour to get there, and a half-hour to get to Tangers, so take a guess where I live (hint: it ain't the Hamptons.)

Port Jeff installed brand new synthetics over the summer.  The lanes are beautiful, and well-maintained.  The house shot is playable, but you can't just throw it anywhere and have it hit the pocket.

The best part about Port Jeff Bowl is the people who run it.  You won't find any 14 year-olds behind the desk, and everyone is very nice and helpful.

You have my sympathy. Back in 2000, the house that I had grown up in was forced to shut down because the prick who owned the property wanted a ridiculous rent. The building sat empty for nearly four years but has just recently been turned into some sort of auto parts store. My dad worked in that center for 15 years, so I practically grew up there. I have since found a center where I now live that is cool and all, but I doubt that I'll ever be as attached to a place as I was the old Berwyn Bowl. There were just too many people, memories and relationships that cannot be recreated anywhere else. Again, you have my sympathy. It sucks to lose a place that means that much to you.

I can't bowl 300, but I can bench 315 : )

A while back you mentioned you're out on the island.  I asked if you ever bowled @ Bellrose, West Hempstead, etc.  I am yet to throw on any lanes beyond Garden City.  *LOL* .. hell, if you were in the Hamptons, I'd think you'd have a pair of lanes in your house!

I'll have to check it out.  Perhaps we can hook up and throw some.  I don't mind the drive.
