Does any NEW GUNS on Tour throw like Duke!
« on: February 09, 2009, 07:02:21 AM »
Any more most of the New Talent out on tour are stand left throw right. High Speed and High Revs. (Lots a power).

Duke justs lays it out there. Strikes don't always look pretty but they are strikes.

I can see it effective but what about Dukes game. Is their anyone out there trying to emulate his style. It seems to me at a PRO level some of these guys could do what Duke does or can they?

I'm sure many of them can come close to doing what he does, but not nearly as good as he does.  Most of the new guys turn the cover off the ball, yet his style continues to work.

You would think someone would take notice and try to learn he and WRW's style.

Ego....They like the way ripping the cover off the ball looks.I watched Cory Husted this past week in foutain valley an was thinking with a father like his with such great talent why does this kid look like a total retard an cant hit a mark twice in a row.Duke's style isnt flashy, but very effective I would say.On a side note was that Ernie Shlegel's kid bowling also.....Another tard on the lanes

You people do realize that Duke can hook the lane with the best of them and did on tour for a while.  Duke is by far the most versatile guy on tour and most of the other veterans on tour can't do what he can do with a bowling ball.  Mark Roth was a "rip the cover off it guy" and he seemed to do okay.  Oh yeah, and I have watched Fagan play the 1 board and going 230 every game at the open when not even WRW is playing there.

So for luv2C10fall, and other like him, GET A CLUE before you claim ego and say that people with 5+ PBA titles look like tards.
And yes I know Fagan only has 1 but you seem to be putting the likes of TJ, Barnes, Smith, Roth, and Couch into this category just to name a few.

Totally agreed, Frankie!
Duke is just the best.....period!

Frankie I do realize it...its just I see him playing a line and no one else is. Don't get me wrong about Fagan. I think he is very talented. My question is more towards Duke's style and where he throws.

I very rarely see this from other PBA players. Is this style hard to master? Does it require more Accuracy? Excellent Timing?

To me it seems so effective. The example is there.

With Duke's style, you create less angle, which often results in less carry. You also have less area to mess with, and some people naturally have more revolutions and it's hard to back off enough to play where Duke plays for many people.

I would love to be able to play straighter, but on lower volumes, it's hard. I have a natural power game that never "developed", and although I can play less revs, it's definitely not my a-game.

duke has more talent in his non-bowling pinky finger than most people have in their whole gene pool

Trash it didn't appear as Frankies response was directed towards you, but more for those that claim "ego" because a guy hooks it on tour.

As far as Duke's release it's extremely difficult to reproduce.  If you get the chance to watch it he's extremely soft at release and still gets a decent tilt along with getting an end-over-end type roll along with getting it to miss the front part of the lane. Others can get straight and play this but the simple fact is that it's there D game and in no way do they get even close to the same carry as Duke can get playing this.  Machuga did go to this type of shot earlier this year I believe in the show that he won, so other players do do it, but it's just like Walter, how often do you *really* see him playing left throw it right?  All the players have it in their bag but when you can play your A game that's what your going to do.
