Need some advice for running a Summer League...
« on: February 10, 2009, 05:42:37 AM »
I know we are alittle more then half way through the winter season but I plan on running a league this summer.
This will be the first ever league I have ever ran. I need some tips to hopefully make this somewhat a success.

Its going to be a Sport shot league. (I'm not sure if my center's sport shot has a certified PBA shot or not). The Kegal machine my center has only stores 4 patterns in the machine, THS, Shark, Chameleon, and Scorpion (I believe).

I assume then everyone will have to upgrade their memberships.

Next their are some junior bowlers and adults both interested in doing this league,Im guessing to make this fair to maybe do doubles or singles but Im not sure. Also what to do with a "prize fund".

Im not wanting to do money, but maybe some sort of trophies or something, but not sure if thats gonna be too corny.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Negative handicap.....= no participation.

I figure for every 215+ bowler you lose, 3 more 195-205 bowlers will believe they've got a chance to take everybody's money since the Big Dogs are off the porch!

The house wants it's lineage and would never accept that. People may drop out left and right if they feel that the shot is too hard and there's no commitments for staying in the league.

The house is full on night time league bowling schedule even in the summer.  So such a tournament or league would have to be fit in on a evening second shift or during weekend days.  If you want youth to participate then second shift weekdays are out.

Sure people drop in and out.  But we already have a tournament club doing this in another center in our association during the winter.

A sport shot? Where? I was wanting to do the one at fireside but they dropped the adult portion.

Saturday or Sundays, can't remember.  But the Rock N Roll to Reno league sec. does a 9 pin no tap tournament on a sport pattern.  Any sanctioned bowler is welcome to bowl, you don't need to belong to that league per say.  This has nothing to do with Debbie's sanctioned PBA Exp leagues she's had in the past, where the youth and adults could participate.

If you do a 4 game format, here's one that works well.  The first 2 games are always a position round and the 2nd two games are the regular rotation.  This is done on a Sport League I was a part of and it keeps all the bowlers happy knowing they just might win a point or two each week.  Points are 3 for each set, 1 for each game and 1 for each set total.
