How to Prevent Over-Turning the Ball
« on: March 23, 2004, 08:59:33 PM »
I have been out of the mix for a couple of years and have started back up in the last couple of months. What I have developed is an "over-turn" of the ball upon release. What are some recommendations on "why" and how to correct the over-turn.

I am right handed tweener, standing left of center, roll over 12 to 8-5.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Timing and squeezing are good shots. I know the timing is bad just because of the time I have been away from the game. But the rotation on the ball really sucks, so will will concentrate on the hand position until I can timing down.
Thanks all.

Update: Thanks to all who emphasized timing and squeezing (just about everybody). Shot over 600 last night (which is OK for me having rolled less than 20 games in the last two years). Worked on timing and concentrated on coming off the ball straighter. After a few frames the old feel was back and wasn't forcing the ball.

Much gratitude

one of the things that I see a lot of people that tend to over turn the ball do is they have their finger lifts or finger holes too tight. They cram their fingers in to get more rotation, and end up over rotating the ball.

Mr "Bones,"
I believe in responding back to those that provide suggestions just for that reason. I've seen too many times where a question is asked, a decent thread is developed, but never a follow-up by the initiator. So you never know if they ever come back to care if anybody said anything or not.

Last night I could feel the grip on my down swing and concentrated on a free swing instead of a forced motion. All of sudden I had controlled ball speed, good rotation and a backend roll, as I used to have.

It's all magic...until you open your ears and mind!!

Thanks to all again.
