From Great Wall to Tough Shot
« on: January 05, 2004, 02:07:17 AM »
The house I bowl at went from a giant wall to a tough shot

Just prior to ABC stepping in, the house had 2/3 300 games a week and an 800 every other week.  It was stand left and throw right.  Keep the ball inside the first arrow at the breakpoint and the ball was coming back into the pocket.  It was not unusual to have 4 boards at the arrows to hit the pocket.

Now they oil 1 to 1 for the first 18 feet.  At about 25 feet the oil ratio is about 2/3 to 1 and at 35 feet it is 4/5 to 1.   Basicly don't miss right or left up front, but you have 2 or 3 boards at the breakpoint.  The breakpoint is around the 10 board.

This is a 40+ lane center with hundreds of league bowlers.  Since the shot change 2 months ago, no 300s or 800s.  In their 16 team 1000 average league, the high series pot for some weeks was won by 650.  On a good night, there may be a couple of low 700s.  You have chance at the high game pot with 230s.

People struggle and their new average is 20+ pins lower, but I have seen people that go to the manager and tell him that they wish he would keep the shot tough.

A case for accuracy instead of power.  You don't need a wall to keep bowlers happy.

LOL - How did I know.........  I bet there are a lot of whiners too complaining that they can't score.

That's okay just before the end of the league they will put up the great wall again and make everyone happy so thee come back next year.

It would be great if they put up a shot for crankers and killed the shot for all the fluffers then you would really see people whine.

people have been spoiled from the cloverleaf syndrome/wall for years now. this one youth scratch tournament was there once... i think cut was somewhere near +200 for 6 games or so. it was madness.

i noticed the change when i was doing the friday night jr/adult league there. the shot changes pretty quickly more than anything else in my experiences. that's where most of the troubles come from.

it's all in part of the fun there.
