Does anyone NOT use high performance?
« on: April 17, 2011, 07:36:47 AM »
I'm a stroker, around 275-300 RPM and 15 MPH ball speed. I have some high end pieces such as the Infinite Theory, Victory Road, Taboo, etc. However, I find a lot of the high performance balls to hook just too much and are often times over/under. I bowl 2 house shot leagues. One is second shift and the other is oiled on top of whatever is out there.

I have found that I use mainly my Onyx Vibe, Tropical Heat Hybrid, Mars, and Natural. I never need anything stronger than my Onyx at 4.5 pin to PAP and 4000 abralon. I know I would need something stronger for sport shots or PBA patterns (bowled a PBA league last season), but do any of you only use mid and "low" performance balls on house shots? If so, what do you use?

At the house closest to me, I use my Nomad Dagger or the Rising Star 99% of the time since the volumes don't normally require anything stronger.  Only twice have I needed the Virtual Gravity Nano to break down the pattern, and put it away after 1 to 1-1/2 games.

However at 1 other house, I do bring the Virtual Gravity Nano every time because they use the 45 ft Route 66 pattern, and with heavier volume on top of that.  It's very rare that I encounter medium to start the block over at that place.  In fact, there have only been 2 occasions where I have been able to go weaker than my Nomad Dagger down to the Rising Star.

My arsenal

Heavy Oil: Storm Virtual Gravity Nano: 4000 AB
Medium-Heavy Oil: Still to be determined
Medium Oil: Roto Grip Nomad Dagger: 1500 polished

Medium-Light Oil: Roto Grip Rising Star: 1500 polished

My strongest current ball is a Lanemasters Sure Strike (can't even use a Buzz!!!),
but 90% of the time I use either a Brunswick Slingshot, a polished Motiv Orange Recon RX-1 or a polished Visionary Blue/Green Centaur.

I have many old and new true medium oil balls but find almost zero usage for them, even with 6" pins or 90 degree Drill angles & 60 degree VAL angles.

This is amazing to me.  Do you throw the ball extremely slow?
