Bowling for the Cycle
« on: November 13, 2003, 09:18:02 PM »
Last year I had a really good year for me with honor scores. I just in the past week got all of my rings/plaques/certificates. I got them all at the same time for some reason or another and one of the bowlers I respect the most in my area was like "what's in the bag?" (ABC plastic bag). So I pulled them out proudly although I know he has roughly 47-48 300's and 25 800's sanctioned, and he was looking at everything and said "You have done something I have been wanting to do for a long time" of course I asked what's that? He said "290 (11-in-a-row) plaque, 298 ring, 299 ring, 300 ring, 800 ring, and certificates for multiple awards for each one but the 298, you almost bowled for the cycle twice in the same year". I hadn't thought of it at the time, but I am not so salty about the 4-9 split on the 298 or the ringing 10 on the 299. Has anyone else here "bowled for the cycle" in one season?

Changed the topic name so that people wouldnt scroll past thinking it was another post about how there are to many honor scores nowadays, and how they don't mean anything, etc

I did it once about 10 years ago.

The last two came together a 299 and 806. The city association secretary said to me at the time about getting the cycle.

Yeh if I could have gotten through the first frame a few more times last year I could have maybe done again. I had 8 290 or 289 games and a 287. It was a running joke on my scratch team last year. If I could get past the first frame it was on. My teamate had 7 280's in the first half alone. They called me "back-end" and he was referred to as #2. This of course inspired a game late in the season in which we both had a 300 going into the 10th. He finished with a 299, After I threw the 12th one it felt good so I turned around and said loudly "WHO DOES #2 WORK FOR?" He said poiting towards the lane "NOBODY MR. 9-PIN"....lol.

Naw the real cycle is bowling a 400, 500, 600, 700 and 800 series all in one weeks time period.   'Course you gotta bowl a lotta leagues or tournaments to do it.
