Sure,  My question is for a couple of reasons.  IBPSIA has a forum on their website.  It is almost dead.  I have made suggestions as to how to increase participation and it seems useless.  One or two post a month.  The forum would be a great place to share tech information and experiences.  The other reason I ask is it might be nice to know how many are really on here.

Last I heard there were only 320 certified techs.  That's not very many considering the amount of pro shops.

I am not trying to downplay the work that IBPSIA has done, as I know they have done some good work over the years.  With that said, they are honestly useless as a body of membership.  One can learn everything that they offer without the fees they charge.  Sure, you get that neat little sticker to put on your pro shop door, but what does that really mean.  The shops around me, at least a couple I know of, are the worst shops in the area.  Stickers and association memberships mean nothing, quality service means everything.  I would put the knowledge and ability of a shop before caring if they were a member of IPBSIA.

To become a member all you have to do is pay the money.  It really says nothing about your ability.  With the certifications it does mean that you have had some training.  Many people just see the logo and all it means is that you are a member.  To be useful as an organization it needs communication.  This is what I find lacking.  They do have a newsletter and some other things.  The classes are really good but Las Vegas or Orlando is a but much for some people.  The idea is good but even the world's worst pro shop can be a member and the best not.  Unfortunately there is no real way to tell as new customer when you walk in the door unless you your self is very experienced.  The average bowler most likely takes for granted that the pro shop pro knows what he is doing.

I'd bet there are more of us on here than you think.  I'd bet there are quite a few Exempt players lurking in the background as well.
