Does color matter?
« on: February 27, 2004, 11:35:09 PM »
This could possibly be perceived as the dumbest question on this board. I am looking for a new ball, needing to "update" my two ball collection. Ive personally been reading a lot into the Storm Super Charge. (Thumbs up or thumbs down??) I got a look at it in the pro shop, and even with all the knowledge I had, the first thing that came to mind was...its mostly purple . Has this ever influenced your choice on buying a ball? Ever think that you would rather get a ball with a lil' more masculinity? lol. hope to get good feedbak.

Color really doesn't matter for the most part.  If color really matters to you, I'm sure you can find a ball that will react similarily to the one you want with a little bit more "manly colors".  For me it really doesn't matter that much, although I would like some more color variety.  I have 4 balls with a fair amount of purple in them (Freak Out, Angle Evolution Reactive, El Nino, Lightning Storm).

AM not A CHICK OF BOWLING but I wanted to be in Manda's clique And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

In the bag right now I have an Unleashed, Triple Threat, and a Dry Heat.  All of those balls are a purple color.  I get teased sometimes about the purple but when the scores are posted, well, the comments stop.  Basically, color doesn't mean sh1t to me!!!

My ugly purple Minotaur has earned me several hundred bucks.  I couldn't care less if the thing is hot pink with flowers on it as long as it helps me make $$$.

You are more likely to get a speeding ticket with the color red.

I almost didn't pick up my V2 Particle when I saw it was purple with pink lettering, lol.

But I had my proshop order it and I didnt' was brick on them either. I ended up getting it, and was very satisfied with the ball, though I keep it dull to make it look tougher..

BEWARE OF PURPLE BOWLING BALLS ---- WASN'T THE REV JERRY FALWELL (SPELLING??) TRYING TO TELL US A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK THAT THE PURPLE TELE-TUBBY WAS GAY??  ACTUALLY, I HAVE A HAMMER 3D OFFSET FROM A FEW YEARS AGO THAT IS STILL AN AWESOME BALL --- IT'S AS PURPLE AS ANYTHING OUT THERE!!!  If color is REALLY an issue for you, then stay away from it because the first bad series you have you'll trade the ball away-- or sell it for a fraction of the original price and maybe regret it later....  If you guys are interested in what I think is a great story about "off-color" balls, I used to bowl in a great Sunday morning money league in Berwyn, IL.  My buddy was the first to buy the pink hammer (and that ball was PINK)  in that league --- He starts with 268 the first game with it, and everybody is pretty quiet just watching the ball react and how he's scoring with it.....Well about the second frame of the second game the comments start --- "Hey, do you have a shirt/socks, etc. to match that ball?" .....It was all in good fun and pretty funny when bowling was done,etc...I'm with the earlier comment-- if I'm scoring well with a ball personally I could care less what color it is.  (P.S. -- I wound up with that same pink hammer after my buddy got done with it).

I'm not so sure the color matters - but the more hideous looking the bowling ball, the higher it will score.

Color makes a difference in some balls.

I believe it was storm that came out with a mix solid pearl cover.  The blue in it was more of a hooker cover than the pearl color cover.  When the balls came out the different covers (one's that had more blue in it) hooked more than the other covers.

There was a post about a year ago on this.

My spare ball is a red, white and blue White Dot.I went to the warehouse myself and chose that one.I am fortunate in that I get to throw a lot of different equipment so my team mates refer to them by color,as in try the blue(Anomaly) or the red(Cherry Bomb) one. Some balls however earn names for their color,as in get out the puke(Animal),creamsicle(Inferno)or Sally(Raspberry Lane 1).

The only ball outside of a spare ball I ever bought because of the color was my Silver Lane 1.A beautiful ball and fortunatly for me an excellent pearl$$

A lot of old timers believe that in pearl balls certain colors hook more than others.I was told that it took more plasticizer to make deeper colors so blue and deep red will outhook gray or gold.Probably not true but I like the theory.

I WANT YELLOW!!! NOBODY MAKES YELLOW BALLS

And tenpinitis, purple obviously hooks more because track makes 90 percent super hook balls that are all purple.

Color only matters too your team and everyone else when I bought my vicious partical I got so much crap about the color looking puke green

If they thought that one was bad, I can only imagine if you dug up an old Track Nuke

There are some that have offered the opinion that the Bone XS was impacted by the dye used in that one...however, I can honestly say that none of the equipment purchases I have made were the product of a color choice.
