Does size matter ?
« on: February 15, 2004, 10:10:51 PM »
I have only been bowling a short time and have recently had two lots of coaching which has helped me so much I think I might actually have a decent average soon. The first lot of coaching was mainly timing (b/c mine was way off) and the second lesson was about arm swing . I was mussling the ball so much it took my coach running along beside me shouting for me to relax my arm for me to have a half decent swing . I have had a few games since then and I am getting more accurate every time because I'm totally relaxing my arm . I was thinking of getting a 15# ball. it would not make that much deference to my swing because I'm finally letting my arm just swing. I normally use a 14# pound ball and wanting to know if there was much difference in carry between the different sizes of ball or what most people my age and build use (I'm 30 ,12 stone and had a manual job all my working life).I cant really say what my style is cranker, tweener etc because I'm still not consistent enough I suppose I am being taught to be a stroker and thats what I'll end up. My next balls going to be the triple x from storm and I just wanted to make sure I got the weight.

Many thanks,Alex

Lets see 12 stone should be about 170#, shouldn't be any problem in that area.  15# equipment should be ok.  I question your choice of a ball though, especially in the beginning phases of the learning process.  Get your coaches advice.

SrKegler is just saying, if you're still learning, you shouldn't just shell out the big bucks for a high-end ball.  Besides, some mid-priced ones are just as good as the high-end equipment.

It's more a mental thing for me . With that ball I've just got that little bit more confidence . I think I'm addicted I've only been playing since July and already I have got a Maxim,a columbia Jekyll,a storm hotrod and soon a triple x not to mention the 4 ball roller and dexter sst 6's and many more bits and pieces. I know I don't really need all this stuff yet but I feel much better with it than without.

Sounds like a good idea then.  Nothing beats confidence.  I was really basing my reply on lane conditions over there about 10 years ago.  Then they were extremely dry.

You have enough equipment to handle the drier patterns anyhow, this one should be a good addition to your arsenal.  Just be sure to give it a lot of room.

Oh, i thought that it was your first ball.  Nevermind, SrKegler's right, it'll make a good addition then.
