What is Your THS?
« on: January 21, 2010, 02:31:58 AM »
I think most of us here agree that most houses are putting out easy THS.  But yet I read posts that a lot of bowlers cannot throw the strong equipment on their leagues.

I read that houses are combating the hook of the month with more oil, but a lot of bowlers are throwing older milder equipment.

So which is it?

My house here put''s out a dryer THS which requires me to play with my Pink Hammer on occassion.  Why because the manager likes em dry so he can score well.

What''s the shot in your area?  Wet or dry?

Depends. We've mostly changed over to the Kegel Recreational patterns this year (although a couple of leagues are on the middle-tier patterns, whatever they're called). However, there's one program left in the machine I just call "summer," and sometimes they run it for league -- very short, sort of flat, and low volume. They wheeled it out a couple of weeks ago for no particular reason whatsoever and that night I ended up throwing plastic for the third game, even though I'm not a high-rev guy.

There are four houses in our local association and I'd say ours is the next-to-hardest of the four, but none of them are particularly evil.

two different houses:

house "a".....30 year old wood lanes in excellent condition and resurfaced this past summer. very level and smooth. no real grooves or track area worn in yet. the oil pattern is 39' and it is blended across the lane. there is very little crown in the middle. the outsides are drier than the middle but not by that much. great backend reaction. you are beter off missing to the outside than pulling the ball.

house "b".....51 year old wood lanes that are so worn that they can't be resurfaced again. laneshield overlay. this house has a huge tophat oil pattern..... appx. 40' long and a ton of oil from 12 to 12 and progressively drier as you go farther outside. the oil in the 12 to 12 zone never dries up but the outsides do quickly.

The shot is pretty consistent here. 44', roughly 26-27 ml, the don't really strip the backends to well though.  Luckily, they stopped open play on the lanes before league.
