To mess up other bowlers?
I have a modern day solid urethane that is the best ball in my bag. It's not the first out of the bag, but when it does come out, I wonder why it's not the first all the time. I'm averaging just under 218 with 26 or 27 games this season.
Anyway, when the urethane does come out, high average bowler playing the track seem to suffer in carry. Some even worse, they get over under. Some have made comments about me using urethane.
For 4 weeks straight, I started noticing my opponents all had carry issues when I start using my blue. All would switch balls and moved in, or whatever, to later find their groove back.

I use urethane now as my first ball out of the bag. I wipe it clean before every shot, otherwise it will have a lot of oil on the cover. Urethanes don't soak up oil like reactives but I think if you wipe it, and it has a lot of flare, you would be okay. I use Visionary's Crow and that does flare a lot.

If you're 1 out of 8 or 1 out of 10 bowlers, in general, you should not have the effect many people think you will - like ruining everyone's shot immediately - as they scream and yell.
Urethane and plastic just don't absorb oil like resins do; so, some will come off along the way. You really must wipe the oil off your ball, if you use it as strike ball or the oil laying on the ball will affect YOUR shot because the ball may ten to grab less as it rolls down the lane. The better you wipe it off your ball, the less that oil can affect your ball as it rolls and their and your breakpoint area.

Some urethanes ARE a "sponge" especially if they are dull finished. I personally have not seen any difference when they are polished.

that's why I'm so curious.....
I use genesis pad and rub and scrub that ball dry. (i don't spin for show) I do the same with my spare ball too. Also, after 3 frames I Remedy Rx the the thing to keep the reaction going.
These are good bowlers, they get "lost" for a second or two then start bang'n frames after adjusting when I use the Blue. But a few times my opponents would be lined up and have the front 6 or 10 and seem so dialed in. Then I break out the blue and I start stringing K's... They are leaving corners until they adjust. Some times it gets worse for them and they recover later in the set.
Just to add: my blue has a 5000 grit on it. Just took it straight medium light pressure. This ball has been great all season... I might as well start with this ball.. its part of the reason I gained 6 sticks in my average. also, it's a 3 man league.

The bowlers you're bowling against sound like they don't know when to adjust. From the way you have painted it, it sounds like you may be ahead of the curve in adjusting and your fellow league bowlers are just not as responsive.

If enough urethane balls are thrown they will carry down oil similar to the polyester balls.
As mentioned above, the oil will sit on the cover and make the ball read friction less effectively if you aren't careful. You'll know when the ball acts less lively late and deflects more through the pin deck. If I use mine more than a game I just spray it off quickly to remove the oil and it bounces back fine.
For even better results, I keep a small section of a microfiber towel damp with ball cleaner and get it between shots as part of the normal ball wiping routine. As long as you're using an approved (for use during play) cleaner no one can contest the cleaning.

I'd have to say "yes" to this.
Especially if you are like me...... many other lefties won't bowl with or against me because I only throw urethane & plastic. With my high rev rate and soft speed I wind up pushing oil into "their" breakpoint. LOL!
They get upset when their resin equipment continues to skid through the carrydown I've created. You'd think it would be pretty simple to adjust to, but some lefties can't or just don't want to.
I've actually had a couple of local high profile lefties proclaim that instead of bowling against me, they will take the night off because "I'm screwing up the lanes for them". LOL!

I think some just wait a few frames too long. But these guys are all above 220's which best me. They get behind frames, but they soon get squared and go sheet. Just been lucky the last several weeks and I've paid more attention to my gut lol.

OP-- are you playing on a walled up THS or sport pattern.
My scratch league is on a short flat heavy pattern and we have a handful of guys throwing urethane. I haven't noticed any carry difference but it does effect the friction block depending on how many are thrown.
The key is watching how every ball reacts and make moves accordingly.

Remember also that their strong resin balls are burning up the heads and midlane like crazy - it's more than likely that their balls are now using up their "striking" energy trying to get thru the heads & midlane they burned up, not any carrydown you think and they think you created.
The appearance of both "problems" (dry heads/midlane and carrydown) is the same - weak 10 pins or worse 2/8/10s.

You will push some oil down, but odds are that with urethane you aren't playing in the thickest of oils and should have less variation at your breakpoint due to closed angles. A single person using urethane will have some, but likely not a major effect unless your ball is either extremely dull or completely covered in oil. Your effects on the lanes are likely more mental to the opposing team than to the actual pattern

When you get a lot of guys using urethane on flatter patterns it 8s really noticeable. Not sure why it should impact good plsyers on s house shot

Bowlers learning to have an excuse for when they bowl bad.
I get those reactions from bowlers when I have a reactive ball fresh sanded at 1000 grit. Watch bowlers start giving dirty looks and making sponge comments.
Surface (prep/understanding)is the biggest advancement in bowling the last few years. The more you lean about it, the better you can take advantage of it.

excuses are plenty...
"He's wrecking my line"
"He's on my line"
"Whoa, that's a dull ball."
"It's humid right now, thumb sticking and can't bowl."
"They look like they have a fresh pair." (We bowl second shift)
I prefer to bowl and get out quick lol

Weak mental game shows quickly in most. I look for it in bowlers and add to it.
"Oh man we are bowling on the end pair, they always score bad"
"Yes this ball is fresh sanded at 800grit". Usually it's fresh 2000.
"This house, or pair of lanes etc is known for 10pins".
"Do these approaches seem slicker then usual? "
Saying the house put out some type of sport pattern when it's the normal house shot also works well.
The power of suggestion is all it takes in many instances.

Get under that helmet.

Just one more note on the urethane issue. As a guy who has carried urethane in my bag for the last 5 years with reasonable success from time to time, it has been my experience that whatever carrdown I create has a a bigger impact on the guy throwing urethane than the guys throwing resin beside him.

Excellent observation!

Urethane can cause true carry-down since it doesn't remove oil from the lane but it usually isn't enough to affect anyone but the person throwing urethane.
