Laneshield . . . sucks
« on: July 06, 2003, 08:25:28 AM »
It blows.  So far anyway.  Bowled on it tonight for a couple games.  There's nothing special about the reaction, typical smooth synthetic feel to it.  The only thing so far is that my good buddy Rex must not know how to oil synthetics, cause the ball hooked all it was going to hook in the first half of the lane.  Can you say FLAT backends.  It'd hook at 30 feet and then slide into the pocket.  The first pair I bowled on was torched.  It hooked in the first 20 feet, slid, then hooked a little more.  The second pair carried down while I was bowling on it.  6 bowlers, 2 games, and it was carrying down.  Somebody already shot 800 (with a 299) as well as a 300 on it yesterday though.  He was a no thumber.  I can see it happening, launching it out there, the ball pulling up for him at 30 feet and slowly arcing right into the pocket.  You can't really spray the ball, but crankers and fluffers will probably score decently, although scores are gonna be down big time.  I wasn't impressed, it's not anything special at all.  Although it's purple with light orange arrows that you can't hardly see.  You might as well forget trying to look at a mark anywhere past the arrows, it's just a sea of purple that just looks like special effects thing for cyberbowling.  It'll glow, that's about it.  I don't like it.

The only difference between youth and adult leagues are that the big boys are allowed to whine.  They're more entertaining anyway.

Yeah, apparently it is sanctioned.  ABC is having to regulate the oil patterns that can be used on it because it's supposed to be a really consistent surface, and people in Europe have been tearing stuff up.  The arrows and boards are really hard to see.  It's fluorescent stuff, really pretty bright.  Like I said, it just looks like another prop for cyberbowling.

It's only for wood lanes, it's supposed to extend the life of them and lengthen the timespan between resurfacings.  It's worse than synthetics though, there are no target aids, no nothing.  It's so bright that the arrows are nearly invisible, and you've gotta look really hard to see the dots, but any mark past the arrows you might as well forget about.  There isn't any 4th arrow to 10 board stuff, there's "I think that was 4th arrow, and it was somewhere around where 10 board should be."  Not gonna like it at all.
