dots, arrows or breakpoint?
« on: December 14, 2003, 08:43:47 PM »
What do you guys target for your strike ball? Your spare ball?

I've been told to try to target the bp (using a reflection or dark board, etc.)for strikes instead of the arrows to increase my strike %. For spares I use the arrows with my plastic.

What do you guys think?

Where I target depends on the lane condition I'm playing on.  You'll probably get several different answers since everyone has their own style.  (Bones is a newly crowned Flinger, and I'm a Fluffy)

If the lanes are oily, I like to target the arrows.  If they're dry, I'll find a breakpoint spot further down the lane and try to get the ball there to strike.

I use the arrows for all spares except the 7 and 10 pins.  For those I draw an imaginary line with my eyes from the pin to the middle of the lane to cover those particular spares.  I'm proud to say right now I'm 90% on 7 pins and 85% on 10 pins

I agree with all up above.  Oil volume determines focus point.

Heavier = closer dryer = farther.

Quick example, one day went in with my medium condition ball only.
Couldn't strike at all(looking at arrows).  Started to pack up.  My pro friend said why are you leaving?

I replied, "It's real wet, I've got the wrong ball and I can't strike!".  Heading home I'll practice another day.

He said, "Loser!", there is a way to strike and I'll prove it too you.").

He got me aiming at the close dots and even a little closer.  After about two balls, voila!  17 in a row!

I agree. More oil, closer the target. Less oil, further the target. I seems to help with loft/laydown point.
