Reading about the 300 with the less than stellar series got me thinking. Where would you rather shoot your honor score, in particular, your 1st. I'm referring more towards doing it in practice or an unsanctioned league/tournament vs a regular league night/tournament. I guess you can also include the house too.
I have yet to shoot a honor score, though I've been relatively close a couple times. My closest chance came a couple weeks ago at the student league I'm in where I went in feeling good shot about 220. 240 and then finished it off with a 180. I think I only missed one spare, but I could string anything together. I know I've broken 700 before, but it was the last 3 games in a 5 game sweeper. It was also that day that I've gotten the closest the my first 300. I had the front 8 and I hadn't missed the pocket yet everything seemed almost effortless. I let the guy next to me bowl 1st and he got a sloppy strike, I think he went through the nose. I believe I went 9 open, and I must have missed at least one more spare, but I believe I ended up with 268 I shot 1084 scratch starting with my first 2 games in the 180's and 190's. But all that was in an unsanctioned tournament.
After my run, I had several people tell me that I didn't want to shoot it then anyway. But isn't there something to be said about getting the monkey off your back so to speak? For me, I think I'd rather do it during a sanctioned event, preferably during league night at my regular house in front of friends and family. But if I have a legitimate chance during either an unsanctioned league or during practice I know I will be going for it.
