Does any company manufacture 12# equipment with a real core? I'd like to get my mom something that hits harder than a pancake weight block, so any input would be appreciated.

If I were you I would look into some Lane#1 balls. They use the same cores in all their different weight sizes. The hit and carry great. That is all I throw. Just an Idea.

Part of the problem you have is simple math.
Lets say a normal core weighs in at 5lbs and the cover stock weighs in at 2 lbs you'll still need 5 lbs of filler material to get to your 12lb total.
The only way to make a ball lighter is to shrink the core/weight block down and add more filler material. The filler material is lighter(more volume per pound compared to a weight blocks(volume per pound)). They can't really increase the thickness of the shell to offset the core weight either because this would increase the shell weight too much.
That's why as the bowling balls decrease in weight their cores get smaller and usually turn into the old 3 piece combination.
I think some of Brunwick's stuff might have a decent weight block when you get that light.
Just do some searching thru each companies website like some of the others have said.
With a new fitting job your mom might be able to move up a pound. This would increase your chances of getting a better selection of balls to choose from.

Brunswick's power grooves have a modified 3 piece core with 2 lower dense blocks to provide some differential and a powerkoil 17 cover. While not a true 2 piece, the ball does hook and hit quite well for a light ball. These are also available on ebay. Ebonite lists specs. on all the weights on their website so you can get an idea what those balls will do in 12 lbs.

Lane #1 used to make a 12 lb. Black Buzzsaw/C in 12 lbs., using a real core. That ball hasn't been produced in a while, so it'll be hard to find one. Now their lightest is 13 lbs. in their Cherry Bombs. =:^D

T-GOD: That's good news; I thought the lightest Saw available is 14lbs. Regardless, a 13# Cherry Bomb might be doable. Do you know if it's possible to get a light 13# ball, like around 13 pounds and 2 oz?

King, Ebonite may use the same shape in their lighter weight balls, but they're taking all the density out of the center of the ball/the core to make them lighter. That's why the RG goes from a 2.48 to a 2.53 from a 15lb. Predator to a 14lb. It also goes to a 2.59 in 13lbs.

If the core is less dense, it has less of an influence on the performance of the ball. The core in their 13lb. ball won't be very effective, even though the shape is there. =:^D

I've been throwing 13 pounds for years and have had to do a lot of investigating.

I was told by Dynothane that their blocks are the same down to 12 pounds.
I just purchased a 13 lb. Vendetta Black Solid and really like it. It's very user friendly, easy to control, predictable and can be used on most lane conditions. I suggest you get your mother a 13 lb ball as I have found it to be a very comfortable weight and seems to hit better than my 12's used to.
I don't know what your mother's style is but any one of the Dynothane's would be a good choice. Their 13's average between 13.0 - 13.4 oz.

In addition, a lot of women in my ladies league have the 13 lb. Original red
ebonite Predator. They are all doing great with that ball. All their averages
have gone up. Most of these women don't have any hand and are throwing a lot of 200 games with them.
