so, if me and a couple of buddies wanted to buy this but we have different thumb pitches, would we all have to buy different ones or are they adjustable?

There are 6 different bridge plates available with the jig, ranging from 1/8" offset to 3/4" offset.  Each plate will give you a range of different combinations I need to know what pitches you need in order to send the proper one (or possibly more than one)

the jig might be decent for people that are not picky about feel or accuracy but for any serious bowler that might stand to save money, which seems to be the only driving force behind this concept, i doubt they would be satisfied with the results.

Interesting.

I haven't watched the full video yet - myspace is blocked at work.

The kit says it comes with 2 bits - I'm assuming 1 for the inserts (31/32), and 1 for the thumb.

Is the 1 for the thumb the size of the insert (as the video shows 1-1/8)?  What about another bit for drilling out the insert, or is kmt going to supply pre-drilled inserts?

1-1/8 drill bit is supplied for pre-drilled thumb insert--other size bits may be offered at a later date.

350?  Goodness.......Why not just take a few bucks, get the f'n ball laid out correctly by someone with experience, who knows your personal game?  As opposed to, risking f'ing up a good new piece on the "new do it yourself jig"...amazing

Well, that's not always an option.  Just because someone owns a "Pro Shop" doesn't mean they know what they are doing.  I've seen plenty of things come out of shops that are laid out totally wrong, have spans/pitches off by as much as an inch from one ball to the next (drilled by the same guy).  The guy that used to run the pro shop where I bowl was basically stuck in the 1950's when it came to drilling.  He didn't believe in balance holes.  I saw people walk in, ask for a skid/flip drilling and walk out with the pin next to/under the ring finger and the MB under the thumb.  When he moved and the new guy came in, half the new guys business was fixing the other guys mistakes.  The older guy had the credentials, his business partner was a former PWBA multi-time champion, yet things were constantly coming out of their WRONG.

I do most of my own layouts, in college I did them for a lot of my friends, and even now I'll lay out stuff for people...and it always reacts the way we want it to.  The main reason why I don't drill my own stuff is I don't have the money or the space for a decent drill press.  You don't need a degree in physics to lay out bowling balls.  All these guys watch the PBA and go "Oh, I need to have the Tommy Jones trick layout"...No, you don't.  For most bowlers, most of the time, the layouts that come on the equipment sheets are sufficient.

If you don't like the product, DON'T BUY IT!  This country was built on people striking out on their own, with their own ideas.  Sometimes the ideas work, sometimes they don't.  Where would this country be if Bill Gates or Steve Jobs had listened to all their critics?  Is the KMT product perfect?  No, but I think this guy has a good idea and it has some good potential.  I think a lot of you criticizers are upset that you didn't think of the idea first.

GOOD LUCK STEVE!!!

If you have a ball that you are comfortable with now, what makes you think you can't copy it???  I get customers in my shop all the time asking me to make their new ball fit just like their old one.  It's not that hard!!!  This jig is just as accurate as any drill press and I supply all the tools necessary to copy your old ball and drill your new ball--and a video to explain how to use the tools--and a phone number if you need help!

Okay, so you are going to sell the pre-drilled thumb inserts, correct?

If I didn't already have my own equipment, I would consider this.  I only drill for myself (and once for my wife and son).  This would be a much cheaper way for somebody that liked to try a lot of different balls (and trust me, there are a lot of people here that fit that description).

And I only got my own equipment because of similar experiences as DanH78
detailed.  Yes, I still make mistakes on my own stuff - like making the bridge to wide or the span 1/8 (or more) too long/short.  At least know I'm not paying somebody else $75 to make those mistakes!

I wish you luck with your system.  I'm far from telling you how to run your business, but you would do good to find some users that would be willing to test your system and give an honest opinion.

I'm sure you'd have to work out some sort of deposit and other stuff, but I imagine you'll meet a lot of resistance until people are convinced that your product can give results that are as good as a pro shop.

Like Jug said, copying measurements and putting holes in a ball isn't rocket science.  This product isn't designed to let you drill for 5 other people - it's for drilling your own stuff.  Looks like it would pay for itself in about 5 balls - using my current shop's prices.

I think this is a wonderful idea. makes sense if you dont have the room or the money for an industrial drill press. Cudos for this wonderful idea. A little pricey but i think that is justified by the machineed parts created for this jig, plus you get some other proshop tools and the drill bits as well.

I'm sorry, but you sir have made a complete mockery of the science and art of ball drilling.  You should be ashamed to bring a product of this ridiculousness to market and expect people to take it seriously.  Quite the disgrace.  Way to devolve the ball drilling profession 15 years.
