Drilling for different core types
« on: August 12, 2008, 07:12:18 PM »
I go by Mo's Dual Angle system for laying out my equipment and had been wondering this for a while.  The pin to PAP distance for symmetrics vs. asymmetrics seems to have different affects according to that.

For example, a symmetric ball with a 4 1/2" pin-PAP is medium flare and is a semi-strong distance in my opinion.  Then, the same distance on an asymmetric ball is large flare and half way between max forward roll and max side roll.  Since asymmetrics are obviously different than symmetrics in a lot of ways, that alone is going to change how a ball rolls.  But in general, what would be the difference between the reaction you get out of the two different core types using that pin-PAP distance?

Is 4 1/2"(2 3/4-6 1/4 is large flare) for an asymmetric the same as 3 1/2"(3-4 is large flare) for a symmetric, and so on?

What is the meaning of the "max forward roll" and "max side roll" for max flare out of asymmetrics?  Does it mean literally or just that closer the the max side roll will promote more length and snap, and that closer to the max forward roll will promote more roll?  It doesn't mention anything like that for symmetrics.

No thoughts?
