Lane Courtesy

Question for all of you out there today?  I was talking to a buddy of mine last night about bowling and the subject of lane courtesy came up.  I mentioned that in my Tuesday and Friday night Classic leagues the rule was 2 to the right and one to the left and the unwritten rule was 2 and 2.  He stated that in most handicap leagues the rule is one and one!  I don’t think I could bowl in that environment at least without blinders.  What do the rest of you live with in your leagues?  Thanks

1 and 1 is pretty much the standard in all handicap leagues, nationwide.  I believe it is also standard in most scratch LEAGUES.

For the first tine, ever, I have to disagree with you. It is NOT the standard.
But then I've only seen:
NY, NJ, PA, MN, MA, CA, TN, KY, OR, WA, AZ.

1 pair and 1 pair works if done properly, but most folks don't and thereby take way too much time to bowl a typical 5 man league.  Lately I've been having some issues with seeing folks 2 lanes over - it's my problem (concentration most likely) and I will not ask for 2 lane courtesy.  (BTW, it's properely 1 pair, not 2 lane).

Courtesy is what the majority in any league or tourmanment use. period.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and again, I do  not care one simple iota what you prefer or want or whatyou think is right. WHAT YOU THINK, WHAT ANYONE THINKS OR BELIEVES IN, with repsect to lane courtesy, MAKES NO DIFFERENCE!!!

You, and I and, I mean everyone, must deal with what IS. If the majority use 2 lane, you MUST use 2 lane. If the majority use 1 lanes, you MUST use 1 lane. If the majority use 1 pair, you MUST use 1 pair.

That's it! End of story.

We do 2 lanes each way in our mens league works well, if 3 guys are ready about the same time the guy to the farthest right goes first then the middle and then the left. It flows very well and we are done in about 2 hours for 3 games 4 man teams. There is a slower bowler or two that gets jumped alot because he takes 1 minute  a shot no kidding. I know him and still give him his lane courtesy when he is next too me, the good part is he misses alot of weeks.

The norm in Vegas for handicap leagues is one and one if you are lucky enough to get that anymore. Too me i dont stall for 2 lanes unless it is the 9 th and 10 th and i need them all to win the game. Since i had laser surgery on my eyes i pickup 3 pairs each way, when i wore glasses you could have been next too me coming and i would have never seen you lol

most bowlers don't even know that there is a lane courtesy rule. during open play anything goes. in many mixed leagues most of the players aren't aware of this type of consideration. most mens leagues give you one lane in each direction. i can live with one lane in each direction but two would be better.

I do not know what our rule is, but most go with 2 lanes. What really gets me cranked up is guys who wait for those two lanes during the 5 precious minutes of practice before league! I can deal with two lanes during league as long as it moves smoothly. I could easliy deal with one as well. Now the guy that runs up, grabs the ball, and throws without even looking...needs his hide tanned!

Is this a northern thing? I grew up bowling in Alabama, have bowled in Georgia and Florida and now I'm bowling in Tennessee. I've yet to encounter anything other than 1-lane courtesy yet.

I would have loved for a lot of the 2+ people to have learned to bowl where I did -- Monroe Lanes in Monroeville, Ala. Ten lanes, ball returns above ground, juke box playing the same six records over and over (including the live version of Chuck Berry's "My Ding-A-Ling") during league, 1-lane courtesy, lanes breaking down constantly with the lane mechanic, who was also on a team, having to run down the access channels next to lanes one and eight.

You bowl in that for a couple of years and you'll be able to bowl in the middle of a stampede of goats.

One lane courtesy is what I've seen in my area.  Some bowlers want 2 lane, but most league and tournament rules I've seen state a 1 lane courtesy is to be observed.

2 lane courtesy is only necessary for really important stuff.  I mean like PBA, some guy on the front 9 or strike out in the 10th kinda situations.  Ordingary joes bowling tuesday nights in a fun league need not give 2 lanes of courtesy.  The lack of pace decreases the amount of fun others have bowling.

1 and 1 is the standard here....exception, when someone is in the 9th..going for 300, then most just stop and watch. Slows down, true, but give the guy all the room he wants and hope he makes it.

Last night an old friend was bowling. No biggie, has a huge ego cause of his 206 average. Thinks hes the best around and no can touch him, says the bowler who out average him are cheating. When he throws a bad shot he blames someelse for his problem usually says "the guy 4 lanes down was on the approach and distracted me" talk about BS. This guy wants 6 lanes curtosy to be the rule. Hes even tried to get it to be league rule, got it from 1/1 to 2/2 but that was it.

I think this guy shouldnt be bowling cause hes always pissed at someone or a group of people. Always blames other people for his personal error, gets even more pissed when I asked him "who threw the shot??" when he says I did, i said theres your problem!

Anyway, it varys here 2/2 is what Ive seen, I usually do 1/1.

I've never heard of 2 lane courtosy in any "league". That's totally ridiculous and unnecessary.

Now if any one that can't use 1 lane courtosy I have a big problem with.
