Drilling suggestions for a short pinned c300 action pacjed
« on: August 31, 2011, 03:10:28 AM »
I bought a new action packed here without thinking about the difference in pin length. Is it possible to drill the new ball (pin length of less than an inch) to react like my old action packed (2 to 3 inch pin)??? If not, any suggestions or questions I should ask when taking it to get drilled. I'm a right hander with med rev rate and normally stay between 15 an 17 mph.

What is the topweight on the new ball? Also, where is the pin in relation to the grip on the old Action Packed? With that info, we should be able to give you a pretty good answer.

I can't remember what the top weight is. I'll check when I get home. On the old ball, the CG is in the palm and the pin is above the middle finger I believe.

The question would be: can you get the fingerweight legal without drilling the fingers to China and putting a large hole above the fingers. If the topweight is around 2oz or less, you can probably do it. Otherwise, the best option would be a pin under fingers drilling, perhaps a little further from your axis.

Let us know what the topweight is when you find out.

Your driller will probably be able to do it. Have him put the pin in the same location, cg down. Drill the fingers a little deeper than normal and see how it scales. If it is still over 1oz fingerweight, a shallow hole can be placed above the fingers to get it legal. That should get you pretty close to the same as your old ball.

Hope this helps.

Arone, I did the same thing as you, bought a bargain ball.   My CG and Pin are together.(PEARL)

I put the pin( cg) just under the ring finger.  Wound up with some side weight and and NO TOPW, but DID HAVE thumb weight..  I put a weight hole in lower right quadrant.  SW didn't change, TOPW not much change, but got the Thumb weight LEGAL.

BALL SEEMS FINE, PRETTY GOOD SKID, EASY REACTION, CARRY SEEMS GOOD.

Put the pin under the middle finger 1/4" farther away from your PAP and place the CG towards the center....it will give you a very similar reaction to the original. If you start drilling the fingers deeper or placing holes you're bringing too many variables into the equation.

Have your driller to check the top weight on his dodo scale before drilling.  1 1/2 oz sounds low.  --  JohnP

I should have mentioned yesterday that if the top weight is off the cg location is probably off too.  Your driller can confirm the cg location on his scale.  --  JohnP

I let the driller talk me in to putting the pin down :/ very dissappointed. He didn't put a balance hole and it doesn't flare at all! Would a balance hole or anything help me to get this thing to skid or flare?
