Idiots on ebay...rant on
« on: May 28, 2006, 11:31:10 PM »
Ok, so I auction a ball on ebay for a NIB Elite Viper 15#, sells for $209.99 (before jumping on me I did not set the price, my friend did for he had one to drill but decided not to and asked me to sell it for him). Person who won the ball, responded via email to send him a total shipped, which would have been $221.99. He stated after the request that if I LOWERED to the price to $180 shipped he could pay right away. I responded saying the actual price and would ship as soon as payment was received. 9 days went by (I give 10 before leaving negative feedback) and no response from them. Attempted to contact several times, no reply back.
So I contact ebay to report non-payment, start a dispute with buyer. Heres where it gets good. They reply to the dispute saying I said I would lower the price and that it was used not NIB (which they spelled out as New in Box, appearently I know nothing now). They want to report me for false statements when they are the one who is arse backwards. I copied part of the email in my response showing them how they wanted to discount so they could "pay" right away. I also forwarded the entire email to the people at ebay regarding the situation.
Either this person is some scammer, or just trying to weasel out of a binding deal. My friend is waiting patiently for me to pay him, but unfortunately I cannot pay him until this clown pays me. Things I wonder about this person:

-If I stated I would lower the price considerably (almost 20%), why DIDN'T he pay right away
-Why no response is made until AFTER the fact and is now being threatened to pay up

Has anybody else had to deal with stupidity like this? (through ebay that is)
How long does it take to resolve these things? I want to get my friend his money ASAP but cant until this is resolved, or ended and he gets his ball back.
Anyone live in their area and wanna "take care" of the problem (Cousin Guido?)

rant off, gotta love working on holidays....

I had 2 none paying buyers, filed a dispute then sold both balls here.  Never once heard from the winners after several attempts to contact.

The only problem I have relisting the ball again is that I still have to pay the insertion fee which is only a couple of bucks, but this is the 3rd time it has been listed and a 4th time listing with basically mean he and I will lose more money than gained after it is all said and done (assuming it sells the 4th time around).

So if anybody wants a NIB 15# Elite Viper with a 2-3" pin and I believe 2.9oz top for $225 shipped ($220 if paying via money order/cashiers check), message me here and lets do the deal ASAP. I will post this ball for sale in the for sale section along with a couple of other NIB Elite balls if anyone is interested.

After partially steaming on it all morning, sent a 2nd response to the dispute, left negative feedback, closed dispute stating I did not want to do business with person anymore. I have posted the Viper along with a few other Elite balls I am selling for my friend in the for sale section, anyone interested message me here and lets do good business. I wont give the person's username and/or location for I feel that would be unprofessional.

I've seen a lot of non paying bidders on bowling balls lately. I keep an eye on whos bidding and their feedback (as well as set filters on bidders with too many negatives so they can't bid) but I still have had people with either 100% positive or maybe 1 negative not pay me and never contact me. Sometimes I can tell that they get bid happy and win stuff that they never expected to and don't want to pay for it, but others I don't know about. I know that I've gotten to the point where if I don't hear anything from the person within a week or so, then I start bugging them and file a NPB report and start looking to sell it to the second highest bidder.

Sorry you had to deal with morons (lowering the price for fast payment? WTH is that?) and hopefully you will get that ball sold.

Overall, my bowling ball transactions on eBay have gone pretty smoothly. I've had a couple of questionable experiences but overall, not bad.

If you want a horror story, I've sold three cars on eBay and the first one I sold, I actually "sold" it three times and in all three cases, was defaulted upon by the buyer. The last time, the car sold for around $11,000. The winning bidder then sends me an email to tell me he's "ready to deal on the price." I said I'm ready to deal, too -- you give me a cashier's check for $11k and I'll give you a car.

He then said the car wasn't worth that, and that he only bid so he could have "negotiating leverage." I told him he must not understand the concept of leverage, because he was now in a contract with me for $11k. Then, out of left field, he claimed I was "discriminating" against him because he was gay and was buying the car for his boyfriend -- neither fact he had ever brought up before, nor does sexual orientation figure into a contract to buy a car -- and that he'd sue me if the car wasn't 100 percent as described, or unless I sold it to him for about 3/4 the auction price.

I finally asked where he was from, so my attorney could mail him the papers, and he starts laughing and says, "I'm in Canada, so come get me, m*****f*****." I filed with eBay and found out, yes, that he was from Canada. At that point, there was nothing to do but cut my losses, report him to eBay and sell the car elsewhere. I ended up trading the car for another collector car locally and eBay suspended the guy's account.

yes i have more no pays than i used to. it is just part of the ebay game. i would like to see them be forced to guarantee payment with a credit card that ebay keeps on file. but that would be hard to manage.
