When I was in college (many, many years ago...) I was an equipment junkie. This was in the time of the Yellow Dot, the bleeder YD, the white dots of different colors, LT-48, etc... I used to bring 2-3 balls to every tournament - sometimes more - weird for the day.
At one time a little more than 2 years ago, i had 31 bowling balls. Now - several of those (7 or
were retired balls, on the shelf, that I'll never throw again, but honor enough to keep forever. Of the remainder, more than half were special layout combinations for "special" shots - balls that I might use 3-6 games a year. The rest were the league balls - the ones that were in the main bag.
I had all this equipment because I was planning on going out on the ladies tour in the Fall of 2003. If you remember, those plans fell flat, because they canceled the tour about 3 weeks before it was due to start.
Well, I sold off that extra equipment. I'm "down" to 12 total balls - most of which never leave the house except for big tournaments. I'm thinking of selling off half of those - I just don't use them any more. I've found that the more equipment, the more confused I get. Do I change balls, change my line/shot/target, change my hand position? I can struggle enough with two of those - don't need to add the equipment question back into the mix.
So - I now have an arsenal that is multiplied by hand positions (read this months BTM
) and I'm gonna get rid of some more stuff. I need the room. Funny thing - for the first time in a long time - I haven't had an urge to buy something new for almost a year!
