Just curious about why
« on: December 09, 2003, 04:37:35 PM »
Why is it some bowlers buy every new ball on the market and never use them. I see it on here all the time, read a post earlier where the guy said "went to the closet the other day and found 5 balls in there I never even drilled."Why would you waste money on balls and never even drill them up? Being one of those guys that lives from paycheck to paycheck and having to do a lot staring at the new balls than buying them, I just don't understand the concept of buying and not using. Is it that some you just have the money to waste on something you will ever use, just to say you have it?

Someone please explain this to me.

I have a PRo Purple, a DC Tour, and a Viper in the closet undrilled.

I bought a used viper and purple and like them.  I am going to sell the used
ones and drill up the others.

I bought the other DC Tour because of a mistake that I made before.

I had a RHino pro T2 and it was the best ball I had ever thown.  By the
time I realized this and went to try and get a few more I couldn't find them.
I have been look from then on trying to find a replacement.  Then I found visionary last year and WHOA I was impressed.  Come to find out the DC Tour was descontinued also, but I was able to buy 3 and put them up.

I will also be doing that with the charcoal ex as it is the cloest thing that I have found to the T2

I talked to a guy at Big B and he told me that if you find a ball that you really like, then you should buy a case of them.

Sound advice

I just let two of my Executioners meet the pro shop operator the other day, only because I had other balls needed to get done first.  I had quite a few balls in use still, but I decided to sell them off, so out came the Executioners.

I have five Enforcers in the closet waiting their turns to meet the driller when my original one dies.

....And Eric, if I knew you had a DC Tour I would have tried to deal that Blue Berry for it....

If I buy a ball, and REALLY like it, I quickly buy another one and keep it around until I wear out the first one. Otherwise, you spend a huge amount of time searching for discontinued balls, or attempting to duplicate the reaction of the "favorite" with another ball.

OK now I understand buying a couple of extra balls, but how many years do you think you will bowl before drilling all five of those balls, and don't you think by then you will have found something else, and therefor never drill more than maybe two of them?

Nope,

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

IF he keeps comming back year after year, and the ball is giving him the same
performance, why change?  When one ball wears out just drill the next one.

Example:

I mainly liked the T2 because of the way the core made the ball feel in my hand when I threw it.  There have only been 3 balls that have come close.  The ex's
have been the closest.  That is why I am now selling alot of stuff, and mainly going to an excecutioner line up.  I will have 2 charcoals, and one crimson in the closet, because I will not make the same mistake twice.
