DRY LANE BALL
« on: July 27, 2007, 04:24:09 AM »
There have been alot of posts about dry lane bowling balls. XXXL seems to be a popular choice for alot of people. But which ball would be best between Power Groove-Tropical Storm-ECT...

My son needs a decent dry lane ball and was looking at these, just wondering what his best choice would be.

In trying to answer your initial question between power-groove and tropical storm, I think it is a no-brainer. The Power-groove, just by the nature of its name, is no weak ball! It is a lot stronger than most people think. I know of one individual in my Monday Nite league that used it on mediums all year!

The Tropical is a strong ball as well.....it carries very well.....but is a much better dry lane ball than the PG. It also can be used on some medium conditions, dependent on bowler style and speed.

The XXXL is an excellent choice for a dry lane piece. Please remember though....everyone has a different idea of what is dry, however! XXXL's may be a little hard to find, however.

In my personal arsenal, the Roto-Grip Mercury, and the Hornet are both excellent choices for hit and carry, and control on true dry lanes.
Either way, you can't go wrong.

Hmm so the Hornet is reactive it seems.  I was wondering if it was urethane or something.  What makes this particular reactive good for dry lanes as opposed to something like a Tropical Storm or a Power Groove?

A high durometer reading ... hence the "HD" in the coverstock's description.

Power Groove Dry/R is a good choice. I have one and it is definitely only useful on desert conditions.

I do have a black XXXL in 16 if you are interested.

For dry lanes I usually use my Wrath (6 1/2 inch pin to PAP), and when they are bone dry I use a Tornado Warning, which carries EVERYTHING!

John Beckwith: I know. Why can't we hunt something cool like a hawk or an eagle, something with some talons?
Jeremy Grey: That'd be awesome. We could get something like big game. Even like a gorilla or a rhinoceros or a f**king human being! That'll get you jacked up.

Buy you are used ball and weaken the cover stock and putting a extreme high polish on the ball if needed.. Also you can put a weight hole in the ball to hold the ball back.

If you bowl in a lot of tournaments for large dollars you really wouldn't ask why you would spend $155 on a dry lane ball. If that dry lane ball works one time I can win $2000+ dollars. Well worth the return on the investment.

I know if I bowled in a tournament in one of the houses I bowl in I had better have a sweet dry lane strategy figured out because they could care less about oil.  I would definitely pay a large amount of money to fix that problem.  My only concern is paying 150 and then being in the same position.  I would have to try it first.
