dry lane ball: fire vs. big hit pearl
« on: April 22, 2005, 01:59:23 AM »
Just looking for some opinions of these balls.  I prob gonna buy one of these in the near future, I just need a little help making my final decision.  I've never thrown ebonite, but know a lot of people who throw and love the ice.  So I was thinking the fire would be similar, but go longer.  I'm more familar with storm, and currently throw a depth charge.  I like the high rg and low diff on the big hit pearl.  If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it.

I own a Big Hit Pearl and it is a wonderful ball for me n e ways on dry lanes, has way more hook on dry than i expected, i am low rev med speed player play up first on dry lanes with it and it comes back, im able to give it more speed and i feel confident in it, when in med it isnt too good, but great for Dry in my perspective

I would take a look at the the new Power Groove Dry/r. Power Grooves were rated best entry level ball recently by Bowling This Month magazine. This is longer than even the originals.

dude i have a Ebonite Zoom for spares, and on dry that thing has like 2 boards of hook for me and im low rev player, and throw hard on spares, so i mean if you high rev i dont see why on burnt up conditions you couldnt get a piece of Sh!t like that drilled aggressive and have it hook, i mean may have to go on angle but i mean just a suggestion, just tryin to help, dont rip on me

yep! that's it.

I never threw the other power grooves but it will be night and day between your other equipment like a wicked.  when you are swinging the wicked 40 out to ten, hoping to stay on the poket side you should be able to move back to 15.

it is that striaght. but unlike other dry lanes balls this has a nice pop at the pin deck. more than any plastic or pancake ball.

maybe the Visionary slate blue gargoyle. but reactive's still skid more than urethanes so if there is any hint of oil you can get it down lane farther than a urethane ball.

depends on how much hand you have.

I have more than a league bowler but not a ton of hand and I would not use it on a fresh pattern short and light until the track area get burnt up.

as for your arsenal? to each his own. but the dry r is a big step down from the exeption. to me that is ok since I can make a lot of adjustments to keep my med/ light oil ball in play for a long time.

my arsenal right now is:

heavy - V2 particle 600 grit.( looking to replace with the guarantted)
Med long patterns, carrydown - big kanuna hand scuffed to 1000.
med short and all light patterns -absolute power -box finish
dry - PG dry/r
spare- white dot

I am not shooting and tournaments for a while but if I did I would take the V@ down to 400 and wet sand the big kahuna to 1000. polish the AP and I would be happy.

In my opinoin, a ball like the DRY/r is a must to have in th ebag for long tournaments.
