Dry lanes......
« on: May 30, 2004, 12:06:08 PM »
I just finished throwing in a tournament where the lanes were bone dry, everything I threw hooked past the head pin.  I know of the XXXL form lane 1, and the Dry Heat by Track, what else is out there, and has anybody had any success with anything?  I so aggreviated that I'm thinking of just shining up a ball for the he** of it.

Urethane Baby!!!!

XXXL would be a great pickup from what I have heard.

For my dry lanes...

Columbia Spirit....Shined to the Max with Ebonite Extender Polish
For stupid dry.....Brunswick Power Groove Urethane.

always keep at least the Spirit with me and if it is a really long format tourney, always pack my urethane.  These balls cost me a total of about 120 bucks with drillings and have easily earned 10 times the amount back.

Hope this helps!

A lot of playing dry or "toast" lanes is more than equipment. Having had the wonderful pleasure of playing the 5th squad of tournaments without any re-oiling, I have found some success.

Where I could play in as deep as 20-25 at the arrows and use a breakpoint of around 5 with a Vis-A-Ball, I could also just change hand position, add some speed and play 15 with a breakpoint of 7-8 with a SonicX. All by hand position and speed.

Instead of my "normal" hand position, I tend to "suitcase grip" the ball, from set-up, right trhrough to release. This gets the ball down the lane, and still has some "pop" on the backends. (a tip I got from an instructor that advises some PBA members). This may not work for all, or even a few, but has alowed me to conquer a few more conditions.

I have a Hot Rod that I use. Goes really long then makes the corner. If you don't think the Hot Rod is weak enough, I would also recommend a Barbed Wire. Just my opinion.
