Best Ball/ Manufacturer on the market?
« on: July 09, 2011, 07:33:04 AM »

I know that this will probably be more of a popularity contest but more curious about what you all think is the best ball and manufacturer out on the lanes today. I ask this because of what I see in the pro telecast. Team Storm bowlers using Roto-grip, Team Brunswick using Columbia...if these guys are on a certain team then why not use that teams product?

All of the manufacturers make good equipment.  Personally, I like the looks I get on the lanes with my Storm/Roto Grip arsenal.  However, I have thrown Brunswick and Columbia 300 in the past and those were good too.  All of the Ebonite brands have products that will fit every style, and that is a huge plus.  900 Global/AMF also has some good products that can fit virtually everyone as well.  I think it's more personal preference when it comes to who is best.

My arsenal

Heavy Oil: Storm Virtual Gravity Nano: 2000 AB
Medium-Heavy Oil: Storm Anarchy: 1500 polished
Medium Oil: Roto Grip Nomad Dagger: 1500 polished

Medium-Light Oil: Roto Grip Rising Star: 1500 polished
Current Ball Arsenal
Heavy:
MOTIV Jackal Legacy
MOTIV Mythic Jackal

Med-Heavy:
MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire
MOTIV Covert Revolt

Medium:
MOTIV VIP ExJ Sigma
MOTIV Sigma Sting
MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire

Thanks for all the replies but like hhhbs1 states I knew that I would get many answers but this was more of the most popular. What does shock me to this point is that many like the Brunswick balls most. I bowl in 2 leagues and most I see is Storm and Hammer. I see very little Brunswick.

Just my 2 cents, but I think Storm/Roto hands down is the best... That is my popularity vote. But they are all good...

In my opinion, all manufacturers put out great products.  "Best" is subjective and answers will be all over the map from people that are brand loyal to those that maybe just feel they match up better with brand X.

Right now I'm throwing a combo of Roto Grip/Lane #1/Brunswick.  I like them all.  I'd like to try some Ebonite International products and some Motiv gear.

Speaking of Motiv, they need to get involved in the manufacturer competition.  Sure they don't have the big name staffers but I bet they could at least compete and show off their amazing products!

While, at some point in the past, your question might've had some relevance, todays technological advances have made it almost a moot point. I mean, just how good of a ball do you need?

Even the entry level reactives of today have FAR more hook, and hitting power, than even the best balls available 20 years ago. The senior US OPEN and the womens US OPEN were both won by bowlers using Ebonites new CYCLONE, an entry level ball.

Are you talking durability? Are you talking performance? Are you talking value?

You need to quantify your explanation of what constitutes "best" in your opinion, then we could make better suggestions/arguments for some over the others. Until then, all you will get are personal preferences and conjecture.

For me its MOTIV, have tried all the other brands and have never been brand specific until recently.  I like the American Made factor and that its not a major brand.  As well as even for a smaller company their prices are comparable to the Big Four.  The look of the balls of course it top notch, but for me its the balance of the line that seals the deal for me.  They cover all types of ball levels and it makes it easy to build up a combo to suit your needs.  This may be because they haven't released many balls in total but from what they have added and discontinued they are making great replacements.  Kudos who feel the same about other brands but MOTIV is where its at for me!!!
