Stinging Fingertips
« on: July 05, 2009, 08:47:39 AM »
Do you actually get a stinging feeling in your fingertips when you hit the ball with a good hard release. As a stroker i have never really done this and not had that feeling until today when i tried a harder release on the ball and felt it on my fingers and got big difference in the way the ball released with more revs and a much stronger finish off the oil. I noticed my fingertips were a little  more whiter where i had pressed harder at release. Is this wrong to do this?? Thanks

 Yes, I do.

This is the exact reason I learned this type of release, but it worked much better back in the plastic/urethane days. I've noticed that it can make a resin ball OVER-react unless your release is VERY consistent.

And, if you continue to do this, those whiter spots on your fingertips will turn darker and become harder, building up a "pad" that is much like a callous, on your fingertips. I don't think I would call it being "wrong", I would just look at it as another option to try if my normal release wasn't carrying due to weak finish at the pins.

P.S. I threw the ball like that for years, but with the advent of the resin ball, have found that you don't need to "hit" the ball like you did back before resin. The new coverstocks and weightblocks let the balls physics do for the ball what you used to have to MAKE it do with a stronger release.
