Well, your only bidding on the Rule technically...the other is a "bonus" Shipping shouldn't be charged.

If you figure a 32 pound box, standard ups ground, from the east coast to the west coast, dropped off at a postal annex or something like that, this is what you get...

UPS Ground
Guaranteed by:  By End of Day
Wednesday February 9, 2005
Billable Weight: 32.0 lbs.
 36.36*

That's why I use fedex ground. It would be
FedEx Home Delivery®
  Delivery in  5 business days
  24.45

that's a lot of savings...

Mumzie, it looks to me as if you are comparing 5 day shipping on one hand with overnight on the other (end of day?).  From here the two are about the same, for 7 day - around 23$ for a two ball box, as I recall.

Rags, look at the date;  February 9.  That's five business days, which is pretty standard for UPS Ground going coast to coast.

Good thing there's a FedEx Kinkos nearby here.  They charge actual shipping, without the markup that you find at the UPS Store or Postal Annex.

Rags - I was comparing apples to apples.
7 day calendar time delivery on both.
same zip codes on both.
same weight and size on both.
Same "drop off" on both.
It never ceases to amaze me how much UPS continues to overcharge.
I rarely use them for anything anymore. I use USPS for anything 4 pounds and under, or media mail. I use fedex ground for everything else.

by the way - just for giggles - the UPS next day rate was around $170.00!

I just shipped 5 balls out to San Diego from here (Dallas/Fort Worth area).  I put two in a box, two in another box and one in another.  I used UPS Ground and each of the two ball boxes was $24.53 and the single box was $14.59.  That was with drop off and paying with PayPal.  Of course that isn't east coast to west coast, but the $37.95 is definitely high.

Mumzie, sorry 'bout that - I didn't read the dates closely.

Odd thing is, from here Fed Ex is almost always a buck or so more than UPS.  Of course I use a Mailboxes outlet and they may be charging the difference.  I should try another shipper (ie, Kinko's, etc.)

I just set up a UPS account and print my labels off the internet and then drop it off at any authorized shipper (there is one less than a mile from my new house).  I get a bill from UPS whenever I do a shipment.  I didn't think I would be able to do this since I only ship once every couple of months, but it has worked great for me.  Better than paying the charges at a shipping place.
