Ebay shipping charges
« on: January 12, 2005, 07:22:54 PM »
When I sell anything on Ebay, I charge ACTUAL shipping.  What is with this flat rate of 18, 19, 20 even 25 bucks?  I see lots of stuff I MIGHT be interested in but not with those shipping costs.  I know that most people are making an extra 3 to 8 bucks.  I don't like to be ripped off and do feel it is necessary to do the same to others.

Is there some rational behind this I am not seeing?

what ismail said...

you know what you're paying for total; if it's not what you want, don't bid it.  what's the big deal?

i would much rather commit to a fixed total price than have to wait to see what "S/H" will be AFTER i've won the item.
what if they decide S/H is $50?  then you've got an ebay dispute.

Yea and the real kicker is when that bowlingball.com and bowlmart or the other larger companies on Ebay say they cut the buyers a break when they charge you $12.00 for an additional ball when a second ball might add $5 bucks to the shipping of one ball.. So not only to they rip you off on the shipping of the first ball, they do the same with the shipping of the second ball..

TOTAL rip off.. I will never buy from either one of those companies ever again.. I agree if you get a good price on the ball, the shipping shouldn't matter, but its the principle of the whole thing that bothers me..

We ship fedex ground on the heavy stuff, and invoice the customer for actual shipping - from fedex we use signature confirmation. If it's going to a residence, there's an extra charge, so we recommend that it be shipped to a business if possible.
We do charge 50 cents for packing time and materials - if that's going to make someone not bid, then they can't afford the product in the first place.

I live on the west coast, too - so shipping to the east coast can get ridiculous.

We send the actual rate quotes off fedex and iship web sites to customers, and let them decide.

Also - I HATE it when folks charge ridiculous shipping on ebay just to get out of paying ebay fees. That kind of thinking can destroy the market place. For example - I was looking at a charm for a bracelet. Now, these charms might cost 60 cents to mail first class. The seller charges $7.95. Then when you challenge her, you get back an email stating that the over charging on shipping is how she makes her money and avoids paying ebay fees. I've turned her in to ebay twice now - noticed that finally, she is "no longer a registered user".

Also - I got a quote from a seller yesterday on three ball bags. I was thinking about getting 2 of them. He wants $19.95 for one bag - makes sense, it's an oversize box, so there will be an upcharge there. But for 2, he wants $29.95. That seemed kinda high...

Oh - and another time - a guy was selling a bowling pin. A signed bowling pin. He was asking $19.95 to ship it. When I challenged him on it, he justified it by saying that he didn't think people would notice the shipping, because he knew the bids wouldn't go high enough for him to get what he wanted from the regular auction. I told him I'd bid on it if he would quote me actual shipping. He refused. I turned him in, too...

Once again, shipping fees are for SHIPPING, not gas, not ebay fees, not your time and trouble to do it.. Thats all the stuff that you have to do when you sell on Ebay.. I am so sick of sellers on Ebay over charging. They should be kicked off Ebay if they are found to be doing that..

You people just do not GET IT.....Shipping charges make no difference....Example buy BAll on ebay & pay 50.00 +19.95=69.95.....Or go BUY the same ball somewhere else & pay 79.95 +8.00=87.95....ONLY THE BOTTOM LINE MATTERS!!!!!!....You sound like a Bunch of Puppies...Stop Whining

No Fear,

Yes we DO GET IT!! I am tired of paying over charged shipping prices on ebay..

Yea, if you get a good deal a ball, why should I then let someone rip me off on the shipping? What does the price you pay for a ball have to do with paying more for shipping than you should?

I quit buying balls and Ebay because of this. If you want to keep paying overcharged shipping prices because you feel as if you have to, go ahead..

I agree, I want to pay $40 for a ball and actual shipping, not $40 for the ball and $20 shipping.  I give two craps what anyone else thinks about the BOTTOM line.  The ebay charges, gas, boxes are part of selling on ebay.  I have a TON of boxes in my basement, in various sizes, all from other crap I have bought.

I've never bought off Ebay. I do synpathize with the complaints here, but yet IEQ has made a valid point with this above statement...
