Gathering folks....
« on: July 19, 2008, 06:48:34 AM »
Anyone know what Ron's going to be laying down for patterns in the bragging rights tournament?

Also interested to know what everyone's bringing. I'm trying to whittle down from 10 balls right now...lol

No idea what he is laying down, but in an effort to save gas on the way down, I have decided to only bring my shoes. I will be using a house ball.

Aw shucks...I just can't do it.

I'll be bringing 4 rico-beasts
Break
Break Pearl
Creature
XXXL

In the past, there's been 2-3 patterns.  Just bring a variety for med/light (never seen a dry shot for the Bragging Rights Tourney), medium, and med/heavy.  Even if we knew Shark was going to be a pattern, the PBA patterns can play completely different depending on the lane machine, oil, lane surface...  No sense racking your brain trying to guess.  Looks like Jon has the right idea.  I'll probably have my Tour Power, BW Bite, B/G Centaur, and XXXL.  Since I'm local, I might bring one or two others, but probably won't bother due to laziness.  If anyone wants to see something I have (profile) in action (not that I have too much new/interesting), let me know and I'll be sure to bring it.

Since I'm flying, I was going to bring just 2 balls.  BUT with the challenge by janderson I'll bring 4.  Probably Black Widow, Gamebreaker, Whirl Wind (no polish at 1000), and Blue Dot.

As for the patterns, in the past we are told at the start but not what is on each lane.  1 is usually a house pattern.  Last year we had the USBC Nationals pattern for 1.  I remember because I cringed about that one - I bowled so wonderful in Reno ... NOT!

These are the 10 under consideration (same 10 I pick from no matter what tournament it is) from heavy to light:

1. Columbia 300 Reaction Roll, at 1000 and drilled Girard layout
2. Lane #1 Enriched Uranium, label
3. Lane #1 Hybrid Dirty Bomb, "thumb leverage" (basically 4x3.5, CG way down)
4. Lane #1 Gold Nugget, label
5. Lane #1 Tsunami H20, label
6. Storm Thunderstruck Pearl, Rico
7. Lane #1 G-Force Evolution, label
8. Lane #1 Dirty Bomb, short pin/CG-to-PAP, stacked, high polish
9. Storm Paradigm, 11.5-inch Pro Pin
10. Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle, 4x4 pin up

I think I'm going to have to reduce to eight, and the two easiest leave-outs are the EU and the Dirty Bomb. I just don't want to leave them out. (g)

Jess,
Just remember, this is just for fun.  If you leave something behind, you have a built in excuse

House is one.
Cheetah is one.
Others are unknown as of yet, but listening for clues when I talk to folk.
The Gathering 2014 is near.  July 25-27 in Winston Salem, NC @ Creekside lanes.

I'm really going to have to get Ron off this Cheetah kick. (g) I hate that thing!

I like the Cheetah. It's good for the soul to throw one in the ditch from time to time

I wonder if he's using the old or new Cheetah?  Last year's version had a nice spark off the edge.  Supposedly this year's version is much harder.  A good bit more volume outside.  He said he was at a regional recently and after a bit of carry down, it wasn't unusual to see the pros hit the 6-10 on balls 2 boards wide!  I'm used to wash outs and 2-10's from poor shots, but 3 counts are going to be hard to swallow.

We must have been on the newer version a few weeks ago. There were plenty of shots that ran straight down the twig to the pins

I actually had the best of luck with my rico'd AMF Code playing straight up the 4th/5th board. I did have to stay firm with it to keep it from taking off on me. I did manage one gutter ball in each of two sets
