EBI holds top spot in 3 of 4 events
« on: May 23, 2014, 10:11:26 PM »
Wow, EBI has top spot in 1st 3 tournaments
has 2 qualify for the 4th event

I wonder what new equipment they are using, because it has to be the balls, right?

Well barnes was using a EPX on the wolf pattern. That has been out of production for 6-7 years, that was made before columbia was owned by EBI. Other than that its not like they have bad products. They have some really good staffers a bunch of future hall of famers. Barnes/O'neil

Everyone makes good equipment. Just have to have the right people throwing them at the right times.

I hope you're being sarcastic about the ball comment. TJ looks to be back on top of his game which is great to see after him really struggling the last couple years. Barnes hasn't really changed much, he's still doing the same stuff

The EPX was a very interesting bowling ball.  Its too bad that there is no market for anything early/flat because that is a reaction shape that you just can't find anymore

I don't get why people think their balls are terrible. The last 4 I've bought have been from Hammer and Track and all of them have been great. Take well to surface changes and carry is pretty high. My average has increased since throwing mostly those balls, I've won a tournament and came up just short in another. Everything has been a great matchup for me

All of the manufacturers make good balls these days.  I'm thinking because a specific ball may not be the best match for a specific bowler, that's where the majority of "these brands suck" conversations start.

I've thrown balls from Brunswick, Columbia 300, Ebonite, Track, Hammer, Storm and Roto Grip.  All have worked well for me.  Some ended up being more condition specific than I would have liked, but that didn't mean it's a bad ball or bad brand.

You've lured me out, I have taken the bait, yes, I am one of those guys that say Ebonite balls are terrible, other than the Pivot Point, they are. Maybe hold for the Cyclone. We can count on one hand, how many relevant balls they've had in the last decade, The One, Mission, Gamebreaker. Thats probably about it. Hell, ill throw in the Maxim, which, to be honest is the most used ball I see from them on racks and in pro shops. Thats a high success rate, 3-4 balls in 10 years, with one being plastic.

Ive said it before and ill say it again, you guys that think these guys can "bowl with anything" is simply not the case. I have the luxury of knowing Marshall Kent who bowled ok in Oklahoma, and other than destroying his thumb, did alright, even made a show. He's told me that he likes to see certain motions and thats what Storm/Roto give him, a motion he's familiar with and comfortable with. Could he get to the pocket with other brands? Most likely. Would he strike? Maybe, maybe not. Not a chance he's willing to take though when you're on that level. Ask Patrick Allen, when he switched to Track a few years and had a awful string of events. He terminated his contract and left money on the table just to stop throwing that stuff, it was that bad. So no, these guys can't bowl with anything, the difference between 9/ and a X is huge out there.

As a matter of fact, I bowled a tournament in Milwaukee last weekend and saw Bill Monce and his bag was full of Storm stuff, I couldn't help but to chuckle to myself as you come here and routinely worship Ebonite and their substandard equipment. I found it funny as I know you mentioned he coaches/drills your stuff.

You throw what scores. I've known Bill for years, and guy CAN throw anything. (I'd kill for his knee bend, just saying) but unless he was working for a certain manufacturer, he's liked Utah an awful lot.

Well, Bill has bags full of Storm stuff because as soon as Cliff Barnes pro shops stopped being exclusive EBI sellers, Storm jumped in a signed every one of the Cliff Barnes Prop shops to Staff contract.
So, its not because EBI has bad stuff.
Cliff Barnes pro shops wanted to sell all equipment, not be exclusive to any one brand
(and that is my opinion only, nobody told me that)
Look on their website, they advertise for all brands
I have thrown a lot of different brands, and the EBI stuff has been a good fit for me.
Used to have Track only in my bag and i did fine with them, still have a couple 505T
last year or 2 its been mostly Hammer and Columbia, have a couple Ebonites
Substandard equipment is your opinion and you are entitled to it
It doesn't mean I have to agree with you
I thought Roto/Storm had substandard equipment, that's why I left them

Dave,

Storm did not "jump in and sign every one of the Cliff Barnes Pro Shops to staff contracts"; we have a good mix of staffers across all brands - Brunswick, Columbia, DV8, Ebonite, Hammer, Motiv, Storm, Radical, Roto Grip, Track.

You are correct though, we wanted to make sure we had all brands available on the wall for purchase.  It is not like we could not sell the other brands before, of course, but this makes it easier.
