The Ebonite Blue Wolf. Looks like an Asym Solid. I'm trying to help my buddy figure out what ball in today's lineup from any manufacturer would be a good replacement for his very very aging Blue Wolf. He loves how smooth, heavy rolling, and predictable it is. It's in that range where he can play 15 out to 10 on wood and up 10 on synthetics and carry for all 3 games of league. He throws around 15 mph with little tilt, more end over end, and about 30 degrees of rotation.

He doesn't buy a lot of balls as you can tell he's still rocking this oldie so more middle of the road versatile ball is key. He still manages to average 200 on both wood and synthetic house shots with this ball and a Brunswick Power Groove Urethane for spares.

Any thoughts on a replacement are welcomed as I'm trying to help him out. Currently looking at the Hammer Dark Legend. I figured a MH oil Hybrid Asym would be a smooth hop.

900 Global Special Ops with a bit of surface is a good midline assym.

I had a Blue Wolf. It was a strong (then), big hooking, solid handling, true medium-heavy to heavy oil ball, with a strictly non-flippy backend.
I think the Black Ops has a much stronger backend than the BW did, no less the Special Ops.

I'd guess balls like the Swerve, the Forza, Gamebreaker II Phenom and the Critical were closer to what the Blue Wolf might do today.

Considering its age and 100's of games on it, would it be safe to assume it's more of a Medium oil ball by today's standards?

It depends on how much maintenance the owner does to it. Heck, if it's oil soaked and worn enough it could be a light oil ball by now. If he keeps the surface fresh and does oil maintenance on it, it should still handle medium heavy oil for the average revs, average ball speed bowler. It had a medium strength cover with a super strength core.

He wipes it off but does not use any cleaner on it, resurfaced, or de-oiled.

The Legion Solid might be a good choice too. Same goes for the Raw Urge.

By replacement are you wanting the ball to roll like the Blue Wolf currently does?

If that is the case I'd look at something in the mid performance range that in most brands is a symmetric core ball. Adjust surface as needed.

Ebi GB2 series,  Columbia Side swipe/ delirium line,  Brunswick all purpose series,  Storm Thunder series etc.
