Ebonite Clean N Dull
« on: October 06, 2009, 12:36:36 PM »
I have read some posts about people using this every so many games, but I  was wondering, is it ok to use it after each set to clean the ball?

Yes, that is the one of the two cleaners that I will use. I clean after every set, to me that's the only way to do things. Pay attention to your ball reaction, I think you will be suprised at the result of cleaning after every set.

Yes, but since its instructions call for 3 sets of towels (I use Bounty paper towels) and the middle set is wet, it's best done at home.

Be advised - use of a spinner is not recommended

Why is that Weaser?

On my bottle of Track Clean and Dull it can be applied via spinner.

You obviously don''t use the product or you can''t read. The directions say right on the bottle BALL SPINNER: APPLY A LIBERAL AMOUNT OF PRODUCT TO THE BALL USING A CLEAN, DRY TOWEL. TURN BALL SPINNER ON AND APPLY MEDIUM PRESSURE. THIS PROCESS TAKES A MINIMUM OF FOUR SIDES. REPEAT TO ENSURE AN EVEN FINISH. Also nowhere on the directions does it say to use three towel''s or a wet towel, or stage. Are you referring to the using of four side part of the directions?

On the original bottles direction''s for applying Clean''N Dull by hand without a spinner, it does say 3 towels and one is a wet towel!

--------Heres whats on the bottle I have------
Instructions
Apply a small amount to a clean TOWEL or polishing pad, or directly to ball. Apply light pressure in a circular motion, doing one quater to half the ball at a time. Remove with a DAMP TOWEL, then DRY TOWEL and repeat on remainder of ball.
----------
CLEAN TOWEL, DAMP TOWEL, DRY TOWEL that''''s three towels and one is wet.

Plus there''''s instruction for use with a spinner. But the ones you give are not on it.

Too much pressure will burn it into the surface creating a glazing effect

Ive used Clean'N Dull for years (starting from when it was from A.P.P(Advanced Polishing Products), then Track and now Ebonite) on a spinner.

Ive never seen it create a glazing effect on a ball.

I even have a video (Finishing Touches) from Innovative products showing it being used with a spinner.

You can use Clean 'n' Dull on a spinner, but you have to make sure you don't have the speed set too high and/or use too much pressure.  I HAVE seen the results of a ball getting a glaze of C&D burnt into it, and it's not pretty.  The ball just completely labored in oil like it had an extender polish applied or something (but this was a clean towel with nothing but C&D on it).  A little fresh surface took the glaze right off and the ball came back to life, but still.

And yes, the new C&D bottle's instructions no longer mention using a damp towel to wipe it off, which surprises me.  I still use the damp towel step and it works very well that way.

That''s Powerhouse''s directions. They ONLY market it. APP actually manufacture''s Clean and Dull, as far as I know.

Ebonite/Powerhouse has changed the directions since they purchased the right to market Clean and Dull from the manufacturer, APP, Applied Polishing Products. Track originally had the right to market this. Track had the same directions on their bottles as APP did. I don''t why Ebonite decided to change the directions, perhaps to make it easier on the user. In any case, I will continue to follow the MANUFACTURER''s AND DESIGNER''S directions, not the marketer''s directions.

That is exactly correct and is the reason that Track originally recommended doing it the same way that Charlest & I both do.

I need to hear more about this.  I've used a spinner with C & D for years and never noticed a glazing effect.  Maybe because I do no use a lot of pressure?

I've used this product a bunch of times while working in the proshop.  NEVER had a glazing effect because I never used an over excessive amount of pressure.  Its a cleaner used to keep dull balls dull.  Why people have used enough pressure to leave a glaze effect is completely beyond me.  Not like you're leaning on it with polish to make it look like glass.

One thing that should be said about using a spinner. You shouldn't be applying anything on a ball with excessive hand pressure.

watching the video of them demoing Clean N Dull on a spinner. He just puts it on for 30 sec. sprays some water on it, wipes it off. Done
