Wes Malot's release
« on: March 05, 2007, 05:11:18 AM »
On sunday they showed a close up on Wes Malot's hand at release and we could see how he turns his hand around to impart revs on the ball.Randy Pedersen said that ordinary bowlers should not try this. What do you think of that technique? Does any of you do that?

I think I broke a finger just watching it.

Me thinks he will have arthritis in his bowling hand before he is 40.

I thought it was strange that on his first step he takes his thumb out of hole partially and then puts it back in.  I would think that would mess with his feel, but I am not a pro so I guess it works for him!!

Release is powerful for sure but Webers no effort smooth release is much better.  Longevity has shown that for sure. I wonder if Wes mallot will be doing what he does today when he is 40+ years of age.

One thing that BIG WES has done this year is shown how versatile his game is. In a couple of the earlier telecasts he was only playing like 13-5...yesterday(though he lost) he was playing MUCH deeper. I do not know if he gets his due credit for being versatile. Yesterday he made 3 bad shots in the game...and it cost him.

So hopefully for his sake when he gets older he will be just fine.

Did you hear the description of Double D's wrist issues? Me thinks that what Wes would face in 15 years....

I don't see the big deal with his release.  He just has his hand cocked to a great degree and he turns his wrist a lot.  Of course this is not the type of release you would teach but what ever works.  He's a great bowler that's for sure!

There are a lot of guys who do it on my Monday league....The question is....can you relase the ball with a open hand each and every time upon release?

What amazes me is that he can be accurate with that follow through.  --  JohnP

Why due to injury, or due to his body slowing down when he gets older?  Because as i said, "I know plenty of crankers who can still do a pretty good amount and they are 40+. I still know a guy whos in his 70's bowled his whole life, still cranks the ball. I think its how you condition yourself and how healthy you are."

He's talking about injury.  I'm sure that's what he means.  I'm 36 years old and have arthritis.  It really does limit you.

I was using forward finger pitch for a long time.  Well with the advice from a fellow BR guy I decided to change to more reverse in the fingers.  The forward finger pitch puts a lot of wear and tear on the joints.  I may not feel it now but sure will in the years to come.  Why go thru the pain later on if it can be prevented.

Same goes for a lot of the crankers releases.  Some of them put a lot of stress on the wrist and joints.  Is it worth it?  I know of several very high rev guys that are smooth and don't resort to the massive wrist cock.  It's not needed to acheive high revs.

Did you notice that he doesn't clear the thumb at the ankle.  He clears it past his ankle.  I think text book style is what one should teach but it's rather obvious that many pro's don't use text book styles.  Just find something that you can repeat consistantly and your gold!

I've bowled with and against Wes for years...nothing has changed much.
